How often do you go to a pub, what sort of pub is it and why do you go?

Kind of curious as debating the closure of pubs and why people don't use them anymore. While people don't go as regularly any more as they did pre 1990s the population is larger and women canf freely use them now so the customer base is larger so should make up for the loss of regular users?

I usually go once a week for a meal

Couple of times a year in the summer maybe, local ones on a seafront

Most weekends I probably find myself in one at least once, whether for lunch, or catching up with friends. City centre type gastro pubs so not somewhere I would catch up with the locals.

Occasionally I will go on my own to a more "mens" pub to watch the football.

Couple of times a week for a meal/drink with better half.

It's only 100 yards away and is our local though so always someone to chat to

Normally once a week, normally at the weekends whilst walking the dog.

Having just moved from a very rural setting to the centre of York, my pub usage has increased exponentially over the last month.

There's a couple of pubs in my town that I visit.

One is a proper old-school pub, low ceilings, wooden beams, fire on in the winter, selection of ales on tap and no TV. It's become my 'local' (although it's not my closest) and I know that I can go in there and there's always a few friendly faces about.

The other is a bottle-shop and micro-brew specialist which has some lovely beers that I wouldn't normally get anywhere else (some nice lambic sours for example), equally, there's been few deserters from my 'local' so again some friendly faces are normally around.

I only go out to the pub maybe once a month, mainly down to lack of time and other commitments/activities.

I'm not interested in sports on TV or the cheapest beers, so the local 'Spoons and other pubs just don't appeal

This is a good description of my new local which is a 5 minute walk from where I’m currently living. Lovely place to go for a drink!

I only go to pubs to eat. Being a non drinker and despising the behaviour alcohol brings out in people is a wee factor too. If someone suggested it as a location for a social meet I would suggest somewhere else.

From the ages of 15-50 pretty much every day- I was smoking and drinking for England.
Pubs are not what they were and I have little interest these days - plus I got old(er).
The last few years maybe two or three times a month - no longer smoke or drink. I only go to meet friends, or at the moment to watch the England games six nations.

Once a week for a pint or two at most.

Drinking in the home counties is way too expensive a hobby to do it at a pub. £5.40 a pint around here, which is frankly, ridiculous.

Just as much here in Edinburgh, if not more! I don't mind too much if it is a craft beer, but for a pint of Stella it's a bit ridiculous.

No pubs within an hour's walk. One in our village is now a Tesco, it suffered from being near a 'traveller' site. The other is about to be turned to flats as it was near an estate and became a haven for trouble (especially after the previously mentioned pub shut).

Sounds like we live in the same place. Did the Tesco use to be the rising sun?

Although if we do there’s 4 pubs within 30 mins walk!

Every Thursday for quiz night.

Occasionally for big footy matches or PPV boxing.

And it's always a Christmas Eve tradition.

Not much to be honest and my nearest pub is about 150 metres from my house! (Good for a drink, food is cr*p)

We'll usually have a pub meal one night if on holiday and the occasional pub meal if at home for special occasions so maybe 8 - 10 times a year to "foodie" type pubs.

Just for a drink down the local or elsewhere maybe 5-6 times in a year.

Since having kids it's just not an attractive thing to do anymore and kid friendly pubs are ones that I used to actively avoid when I did go out for a drink. Prefer to stay at home.
