Vauxhall Astra Van or something else?

So having sold my car I decided to look for a van for around £3500. I have kept some money aside for repairs, MOT and Servicing rather than spend the whole amount I got for my car. So I decided upon a Vauxhall Astra Van, they seem to suit my needs and I don't need to carry a huge amount of tools etc and I can get ladders and a pipe tube for the roof.

So has anyone had one, any problem areas, which engine would be best, or could you offer an alternative?

I have a 12 plate 1.7 Sportive XP model and it's fantastic, this is my 3rd Astra van and I only bought this one due to the untimely demise of my last one after it lost a fight with a 6ton truck, that was an '04 2.0 DTi and it passed away with 199851 miles on the clock, owned it for approx 6/7 and covered around 160k in it, apart from normal stuff like brake pipes, rear springs and drop links (I work on construction sites) I never had any problems with it.
My 12 plate is comfortable to drive and on a run at a constant 75mph in 6th returns around 55mpg
