Looking at a Cerbera - help req!

Hi guys and gals
I'm seriously thinking of putting down a wedge on a Cerbera and was wondering what things I should look out for..
Car A is at a non TVR car dealership (personal car):
TVR Cerbera 4.5, 2003 03 Reg , 11,500 miles, Metallic Blue. Air conditioning, Alloy wheels, CD, Extra seats, Immobiliser, Leather seats, Power assisted steering, Remote locking, Face Lift Model. Just Serviced.... for 29,990. It's the right colour for me too...As it is a dealer, he can take my M3 evo convertible as p/x.
Car B is owned by a friend. It's a 4.2 1999 model. Much cheaper than above (!) but the wrong colour!.
So I am interested in what I should check, what warranty options are there (I don't fancy an engine rebuild straight away!).
At a dealership, how much can you get them to move on the price typically?.

29,900 is too cheap for an 03. I think it is a car that has been commented on before on the web site.

I would suggest talking to the likes of Adrian Blyth, Fernhursts or James Agger if you want a non-dealer car but you dont want to go private.
Personally I would sell the M3 privately and look at private cerbs on this site.
You could also talk to findasportscar.co.uk or ask an indie servicer to recommend a car that is on their books.
If you dont know your cerbs then it is a minefield.

always go for the best car you can afford. car A sounds
like the one you want so go for it, but like anyone on
here they will tell you to get it inspected by a
respected TVR expert.if car B is second best dont do it. the car you buy has to be exactly what you want.

If you are after a pretty excellent car, then there is a good chance that I will be selling mine soon ( my wife has decided that we need to double our mortage and I need all available cash to get the house.
Fernhurst still owe me a free service which is due in July/August but I could get it done early and this is the big one. I don't want to sell the car at all but my wife is desperate to buy this house, and as I commute on the train, I don't get to use it as much as I would like anyway. Car has been pretty reliable (check my posts) other than a couple of niggles with the doors etc and I easily sorted out most myself. Its currently getting a new starter motor put in.
It produced quite a good output for a standard car at the rolling road day and is cleaned and polished every weekend. Drop me a mail if you are interested.

And therefore is actually overpriced. Hence why hasnt readily sold. Who pays virtually top dollar / £29K for a write off repair. They can be great value but can be difficult to shift unless cheap.

It is pretty but....
gearbox (clutch?) seems shagged....reverse crunches, 3rd is difficult to find. But I'm no expert!.
It has three previous owners - the owner wasn't around when I arrived so one of his staff took me out in it.
There was a world of difference between it and the car I drove at Fernhurst....

If the 4.2 is the right price and its owned by a friend...then that one would sit best with me (better the devil you know and all that!) but then again you clearly have a reasonable budget so getting the perfect one for you shouldnt be toooo difficult.

Its called (check spelling!) amaranth pearl i think.
You may have seen this used on the rover range a few years ago, all the way through the range right down to the 111's
It is a nice purple which kind of flips to light blue in bright sun - it doesnt seem as deep on my car as on the rovers..
I must admit - that and the interior colours are what did it for me.

Sounds like others have already pinned down the history of the 4.5. If it's the same one I saw, it was initially selling for 6000 pounds less from a different dealer.
I recently bought a Cat D 4.5 and have had no problems. Part of the deal (as recommended by my local garage) was to have the car serviced/MOT'd at a proper TVR garage prior to the sale. It certainly bought peace of mind!

(hopefully it's all ok......it's a long drive to/from Tyne & Wear to Kent....)
