I have been renting a small business unit for a few years. At some point both the owners and managing company have changed. I now have a dispute with the current managing company. I haven't signed a new contract at any point. Can I just up and leave, or does the original contract with the original management company transfer to the new co when they take over?

Advice welcome

I fear that this is going to be hard work....

What I think has happened is your landlord has sold his interest to another landlord. All of the lease / licenses etc will have transferred to the new landlord.

The managing agents are employed by the landlord, typically so that they don't have to deal with tenants themselves.

Your agreement is almost certainly still be valid and while no-one is going to stop you walking away, they will most likely follow you with legal menace....

As Surveyor has said, most likely you'll experience some grief by just leaving.

Just because you haven't signed a new lease/contract doesn't mean you don't still have an agreement with the new landlord as it will depend on what type of contract you signed previously. Please get some legal advice - you may still need to give "notice" to terminate your occupancy & this should then hopefully reduce the opportunity for the LL creating grief.
