What’s the difference
Discussion
Interesting question. I’d like to know the answer too!
I traded up from an R400D to an R500D and the difference is defintely noticeable but mostly on tracks with longer straights (eg Silverstone) as that’s where the extra power seems to make more of a difference. On slower more twisty tracks, I don’t think there’s much in it and the 500 is defintely trickier to drive as you can’t nail it as much without spinning up the wheels. Some of the difference will be set up related too. I’m still working on my set up to get it to handle the way I want it...
I expect the 620 to 500 gap will be the same again, but would be interesting to hear from someone with real experience.

Don’t have real world experience but surely the 620r is noticeably quicker. It’s not just got more BHP but the supercharger will mean it develops more torque as well over a good chunk of the Rev range.
Not necessarily. The problem is that at anything over R400 levels of power, the car is basically traction limited so doesn’t matter how much power or torque it generates because in 1st, 2nd and 3rd you can’t deploy it. Hence why, if there’s likely to the a meaningful siffwrence, it’ll be more noticeable on tracks with long straights.Wah00 said:
Has anyone traded up from R500D to a 620R? Just interested to know how much quicker they are say on a given circuit.
Not quite! I've had a few K-series R500s and recently went from a 215bhp Superlight R to a 620r. The experience is completely different - the 620 has much more torque and power at part throttle, so it feels different. I think a 620r produces the same power as my SLR at 8,000rpm at 5,000 rpm, so it goes quickly without needing to use loads of revs. I have a feeling the Sadev gearbox would make more difference on a track, it's pretty amazing.
