JJ stent after kidney surgery

I currently have a stent fitted after surgery to try and remove a 8mm kidney stone, have had it in for just over a month now and finding it very uncomfortable. Had number of antibiotics over past couple of weeks due to water infections and passing blood in my urine.
Due to have more surgery next month to try and remove the stone with laser (3rd time hopefully lucky!) and replace the stent.
Has anybody had any experience with one of these stents and if the pain is normal

I feel your pain. I had a 6mm kidney stone in March of last year. Stent installed whilst on waiting list for stone removal. Mine was in for three months. Extremely uncomfortable and at times woke me at night; that's apart from the very increased frequency to have to go to the loo!! Life was on hold the whole time due to this. All of it a total pita and made more so with consultants / GP being totally unsympathetic.
Thought after stone was lasered all would be well.....but no, another bloody stent for a month! Same problems and told not to worry as all my symptoms were normal and 'it won't be long to wait'. All very well when it's not you who has the stent! After the stent was removed I let the consultant know that if all my issues were normal then he had a serious issue in alleviating pain in his patients.
There were other issues regarding treatment and I'm very disallusioned regarding the NHS.....but that's the reality of the NHS in rural England. Ungrateful I may appear but there has to be a better way......er like operate straight away after diagnosis which would have taken as much time as to put the stent in!!

I had a handful of stones with the biggest being 8 and 9mm.
Started in aug 2017 with the NHS sending me private due to lack of capacity to do it themselves. It was great, scans, consultant in the same day and an agreement that the sonic treatment would work and only a two week wait.
Two weeks pass and I get a letter saying the NHS won’t pay even though it was the NHS who sent me private.
Back to gp who had to wait for private consultant to write to him before I could go back into the loop.
Dec 2017 finally back in NHS loop and get a scan March 2018 even though scans were done previously at private hospital. Consultant appointment in May 2018 and treatment started October 2018 with one a month to completion in Dec 2018.
During that time I was visiting the GP and begging for pain relief and ended up buying pain relief from internet source. I lived on the things.
Come treatment time on the day I got paracetamol, diclofenac and a fentanyl lollipop along with antibiotic injection. Floated into treatment, floated out and then had several hours of sickness due to the effect fentanyl had on me.
Did that twice more and all stones broken up and passed out the normal way, one or two having no right to be passed out that way! Fingers crossed they stay away for a while, drinking as much water as I can to keep everything moving!
So having never had a stent, I feel your pain and hope that you are feeling better very soon!

I got carted off to hospital in absolute agony one Saturday afternoon, the cause was ultimately identified by a CT scan as a 4mm stone, been on all the interesting drugs for the pain. Worst pain ever and according the consultant worse than childbirth.
Their solution was to pump me full of drugs to try and pass it naturally, no idea if it has pinged on the porcelain so assume it is still in there biding its time. They did discuss operating to remove it from the tube and putting a stent in but they said there could be blood in my pee and some discomfort.
