I guess Porsche have managed to turn some previous and much talked about engine failures into a "profit opportunity". Thousands of customers terrified of leaving the dealer network or departing from the official service schedule while at the same time handing over £500 a year for extended warranty. Easy money.
So far I've stayed with OPC for services although I don't follow the official schedule (due to lower mileage). Whenever I've checked out good independents in my area they seem to offer very little cost advantage. Haven't bothered with extended warranty. To date I'm "cash in" by more than £2,000 on my 981. That cash sits in a notional jar on the mantelpiece for any serious problems.
Happily I've owned sports cars of various makes for most of my adult life, studiously avoided the temptation of "modifications" and haven't yet encountered any serious failures. My jar on the mantelpiece remains in very good shape!
