Apologies for the potentially daft question but what aspect of tune resistor and fuel map determines whether the 14cux uses closed loop mixture control? Is this part of the catalyst type fuel map activating the closed loop software or the presence of the sensors themselves?

I ask because I'm considering experiments with different open loop fuel maps on the same chip and using the tune resistor to select them.

I don't have or want lamba sensors.

It runs closed loop for part of the rpm and load range when the tune resister selects a 'cat' map.

If the closed loop control system detects a fault, it will revert to a fall-back map in open loop mode. Not having lambda sensors would probably be detected as a fault.

I'm sure Mark Adams will have explained this in great detail at some point in the past, so search his posts if you want chapter and verse.

I suspect that everything you need to know, and more besides, is contained within SteveSprint's excellent online remapping manual

Wow, impressive! Back in 2003 I blew up a tuned TVR390SE engine (crank escaped in 3 parts), and figured the (tweaked) 14CUX was untransferable to a new 'normal' 3.9, so went Megasquirt instead. Nice to see it's given up its secrets so completely.

Thanks for the replies! The 14cux remap site was what got me wondering about doing some tinkering since I have a spare ECU.

I'll do some more research...

Thanks again!
