In race penalties for this season will be taking a long way around one of the corners, similar to a joker lap on rallycross. A pit lane ride through kills their chances in the race completely, and dropping a position on the track is awkward/dangerous. The riders tried it in testing and were pretty positive about it.

Sounds great until someone comes flying up the inside and wipes out all those who are going for the shorter corner. hehe

Seems a bit pointless why not just add time on at the end of the race.

That makes the race result confusing, especially for spectators at the venue (who might not have the benefit of commentary explaining the penalty etc).

This sounds almost like a joker lap in rallycross.

Or the boost lane in FE.

I suppose easier and quicker than trying to do time penalties.

The only tricky bit is rejoining the track I suppose, wouldn't work for cars but it sounds like a good solution for bikes
