This is horrible news. I was only listening to The Colour of Spring yesterday.

I admired him as a musician and that he chose to retire from music to put his family first.

I think the last three TalkTalk albums and his subsequent solo album were all masterpieces.

This quote sums him up for me:

“Before you play two notes, learn how to play one note, y’know. And that, it’s as simple as that really. And don’t play one note unless you’ve got a reason to play it.”

RIP Mark.

Just heard this sad news on Radio 6 and I don't think using the term musical genius was ever out of place when referring to Mark Hollis.

With Talk Talk and on his solo album he produced some utterly fantastic music and he had one of my favourite voices in recorded music. Every album moved it on with the last 3 Talk Talk albums being just perfect music for me, a lot of bands clearly listened to the last 2 especially.

Always hoped one day however remote the chance they'd get back together but I guess this leaves the legacy completely unsullied.

Difficult to choose a favourite track of his but this is close, RIP Mark

Terrible news. A sadly underrated but massively talented musician.

very sad. soundtrack to my youth. Driving from malin bridge out to derbyshire in the summer with natural history on as loud as it could go in a 1.6 205 gti. that album had a song for every teenage emotion and more, still have it on my playlist now.

Thank you mark, you made a difference, you really did.
