Hi all,

A good few years ago I bought a Honda motorbike in with some other stuff at auction. It has been in the back of the garage until yesterday when I pulled it out.

I'd like to put it on the road but it has no paperwork or reg plate.

It's a 1975 or 76 model CB500T.

I don't know any more than that although I suspect it's an import due to the condition and the other things I bought with it.

Anyone know what I have to do? The gov.uk website is very confusing!

Thanks if you can help.

I do not know the answer to your question but am very jealous because that is a cool bike.

If it's an import then you will need to prove that any duty & taxes have been paid, this used to be a C386 form, but is now a NOVA which is an electronic record. Without either of these you may have to pay duty based on the value. You could try contacting the DVLA & tell them it's a barn find, it's been done before.

Can I find out if it has had the duty paid? Google not helping.

Don't complicate things.

Get an MOT on the VIN number.

Obtain insurance (on the VIN number).

"tax" the vehicle, DVLA will tell you the VRN. If there isn't one then DVLA will issue a replacement - as you have no idea who has removed the original.

Don't say it may be an import - how would you know?

Thanks, that sounds like a plan.

The plan will work well unless it actually is an import when it will stop.

Do call the DVLA. I imported a car and they were very good on the phone. Just not quite so good with the paperwork that took 5 goes for them to agree to give me a V5.
