As you may or may not know, I have a broken E60 M5. It is getting a rebuilt engine at considerate cost in April. I am very much in three minds what to do about it. Do I try and sell it at good money (low owner, low miles, fresh engine, new clutch etc) or keep it for a while and get some use out of my cost or do I keep it long term and put more money into it?

My plan is to get an F10 M5 at some point, but whether that would be immediately after selling the E60 or in 12/24 months time is another matter.

Also I am unsure how I would price my car. It is a 2006 model with a reasonable spec, but lacking a few things, and given its sub 80k miles on the car (and sub 1500 miles on the engine) it would only foreseeably(sp) go to someone who really wanted an E60 M5 as I would't want to let it go for peanuts.

Why would I want to sell? It is bothering me having £25k in a car worth no more than what, £18k? £18k plus 12 months of saving is easily into F10 M5 territory.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

My Cerbera cost me £11k in total to sort my engine rebuild/crank/cylinder head/clutch/slave cylinder etc out. After spending that much on it I decided to keep it for another three years to enjoy it. Like you though I did consider fixing it and then selling it on at first.

It is a factor, and I may keep it 12 months before moving it on. Sadly my warranty on the engine doesn't cover me for track days which rules that out.

How would they know if it popped on a track day? Unless you are a man of solid principles however, then fair play to you.

I am indeed a man of solid principles. The company doing the engine are doing me a favour with it so I would hate to take the piss, it would not sit well with me.

2.5 years and a global pandemic. Extremely odd times. My daughter's PCP Vauxhall Mokka end value went from £8.1 to £10.6 in 6 weeks.

Do what makes you happy.

In this situation, and with that kind of car, I am a proponent of “it’s worth what you’ll sell it for”. Why not advertise it for what you’d ideally want for it, and see what happens?

Sell the M5 now (you want to change it, I say this because you've been saying it for to long wink ) don't settle for less than top dollar.

The F10 won't be as enjoyable but it'll be enjoyable in a different way as it's a more rounded car than the V10, also I'd get the F10 straight off if you can.

Yes prices are high but why wait a year or two for prices to MAYBE drop, in that time you could've been enjoying the car rather than be in a stop gap car.
