Anyone got a 620R which they only use on the road or use on the road most of the time? Been toying with a 620R but don’t really do track days and wonder if a 620R would be wasted. Currently have a 420R and wondered if this is a better proposition - perhaps go to Roller barrels.
Any thoughts welcome

I’d stick with the 420 and have the RBTBs fitted.
I had my R400D done by Luke Stevens and it transformed it. Instant smooth idle from first start, will pull away with no throttle, sounds brilliant.
And of course a bit more power and torque.
220hp is more than enough on the road and it’s not at all shabby on track, when driven properly, and still fun when I’m driving it............

I have a seven with 400bhp/400lb-ft courtesy of a GM LS2 V8. I only use it on the road, and love the rear axle steering ease that comes from the mound of torque. I have not driven a 620, but imagine it is the same. I would say that because you access the performance in any gear, at any revs, it becomes even more fun than an engine that requires more effort to keep on the boil. There is also the joy that comes from the simple over-the-top lunacy of more power than a car can ever use, or truly need.
Just my 2p.
Martin.
I, like you op wanted the 620r. I got to take out the 620s and thought it was way too much for the road, it was bonkers! Besides, I wanted a longer range for touring so the 420r made perfect sense for me. I've believe that on full chat the 620r will eat up one litre of fuel a minute!!
Bit of a personal thing really I think. Having a mate with a 620S, and mine being a vanilla 135bhp.. we both agreed we like both cars in different ways.
Best I could describe is that the 620 just punches so hard everywhere you focus on getting it pointed somewhere close enough to straight and deploying that punch. Feels more of a blunt instrument, whereas with less power you work on keeping the speed and lean more on corner entries.
My personal opinion is that too much torque / instantly accessible power detracts.. it takes away involvement and the need to be in the right gear/work for it, but then that's just me. Not sure how the comparison would be with a bigger power but non-supercharged car.

I have a 620R, having had 2 SLRs, and 2 R500s before that.
The 620R is pretty fast for a road car, I must admit. The gearbox is noisy and aggressive, and it has an excess of power even at part throttle. I wouldn't change it for anything lesser though - you don't use all the power, all of the time, so it still has the potential to genuinely shock you, which is great!
