I am kind of curious does your employer drug test and if so what job are you in?
When i was a HGV driver I never once was got drug tested, I worked for some of the very large companies.
When I worked as a load planner or tankers I was never drug tested even though the job was quite responsible because many liquids you could not carry on one tanker and some tankers had to be of specific metal as not to react, some were heated others cooled.
When I worked in a call center I was drug tested randomly regularly.

I run tankers with hazmat on contract , random drug testing is part of the deal .We're based in Canada but also run the US where testing is mandatory for all truckers , and rightly so . Testing kits carried in all vehicles by law .
There are times when I wouldn't mind a smoke with friends (legal here) but it'll stay in my system for up to a month , especially with follicle testing , but a line of crack on a Friday night won't show by Monday morning with is arse about face if you ask me . All clean here btw .

Friend of mine worked for a street lighting company and used to be on call to cut down/make safe lampposts in the event of a traffic accident etc.
We call him wallace now because he got called out one night and he'd been messing around with some marching powder - they didn't test them unless they'd had an accident etc..
he was grinding a post down when a spark caught his trousers (which he'd put the non-fire proof ones on) and managed to set himself on fire.
he was fine, but they tested him and he got the sack for a positive result. The wrong trousers.

a) If you're going to give someone a call from the medical room to come for a random drugs test in the next two hours, don't have the caller display "Medical screening" pop up on individuals 'phones.
b) If you're doing drink / drug screening at one of the island construction sites, might it be better for the mobile lab that the screening firm use be parked out the gate after the day shift is kicked out so the least people possible know it is pee time at the gate the next day. A couple of really rural places hated it when it happened, it killed the village pubs for the night, e.g. Bradwell Waterside and Blaneau Ffg (which by inference actually suggested there was a problem that needed stopping).

On the railway and we have random drug tests, but they are very rare. Although if an incident happens out on track, we all get pulled in for immediate testing.
I love my job, and quitting recreational drugs was probably one of the best things I ever did in hindsight.

I work for a fairly large nationally known company, with driving being a large part of my job.
I quit smoking for a good few months as I wrongfully expected there to be a medical but there wasn't. And rightly so IMO when all it takes is a few smokes on the weekend to test positive WAY after and active effects have worn off.
Not to mention the fact that certain, far harder drugs that I wouldn't dream of touching are metabolized way quicker.
A manager explained it along the lines of not minding what we do in our time off, as long as the company's name is not involved, and we are fit and healthy to work when our shift rolls around. Works for me

.Used to work in Construction, for a lot of contacts Drug testing was compulsory before you were even allowed on. Had one member of staff fail an on site test (cannabis), brought him back to our works, (couldn't let him drive as he had failed a drugs test) had him tested by the company that did our tests and he passed. That was an interesting couple of weeks with different companies arguing about the validity of each others tests.
Also had to dismiss one of my own staff for failing a random drugs test. Another resigned when he was asked to take a test.

A few years ago i did a temp job as a driver . 3.5. ton sprinters and long hours. the company were about to introduce random drug testing . A few drivers were up in arms about it , mainly the younger end . rest of us couldn't care less.
way we saw it was your driving and doing hundreds of miles every day you cant afford to be on anything. if your not taking anything youve nothing to worry about . some did moan they were scared to have a drink sunday nights in case over the limit the next morning and it was early starts. my thoughts were if thats the case maybe your in the wrong job if thats a problem.
Im a self employed special fx artist these days so can please myself , thing is if i was on anything chances are i wouldnt get anything done and prefer a good income over mind altering substances.
would not bother me if i went back into any paid work for a company and they wanted to test me . as i say if your clean then nothing to be concerned about .

Used to work in a tier 2 automotive place, drug and alcohol testing was a regular occurrence. I was never tested but they where busy with people who they suspected and mostly right, when it was introduced we had a 85% failure rate. A lot of them being FLT drivers but many just assembly workers.
My current job, manufacturing does drug and alcohol testing, but not seen anyone tested yet.

Drug testing where I used to work was only ever used as a tool to get rid of staff who weren't performing, as long as you hit the targets it didn't matter.
In the city drug use is rife and a blind eye is turned as creating a hostile environment for staff may makes it harder to recruit and the talent may jump ship to places that are more accomodating.

Have you read the article? There are unusual circumstances as to why she did it (note she pleaded guilty at court and still has the ban). Both jobs I can be breath/drug tested. Only had it at one when I joined (part of the recruitment process).
Heard of a few getting sacked for it. They often come in when it's been a nice day to see if the evening drivers have been for a pub lunch or during the world cup etc.
Drugs it's if they suspect someone is using.
