Hi all,

Some of you maybe aware I recently rebuilt my 520d F10 after timing chain failure.

Well it is all done and I have now sold the car. So I need a new car.

I looking at a 2014 535d M Sport 55k miles. Any advice on these engines. I understand its a N57 straight 6 with two turbos.

I have looked online and can't seem to find much which may e a good thing.

Any input?

Excellent cars. Occasional timing chain problems, much less frequent than the N47.

Oh dear,

Are there any BMW without timing chain faults? After what happened previously I don't want a repeat

You have put me off now. I think I will look for something else.

Any recommendations?

The N57 is excellent and will do huge mileage. Timing chains problems are not frequent, and mostly due to the stupid long oil service intervals. Get an AUC with under 60k if you are worried and keep the warranty up.

Approved Used Car, so bought from a BMW dealer. Std. 12 months warranty and other benefits. Sometimes, if negotiated, a 2nd years warranty.
It's a really good warranty.
Search BMW AUC for the website where cars are listed.

Thanks again

How about swerving diesel engines altogether and going for a petrol?

Any advice? What's a good petrol engine in the F10? I don't want a 520i

Just do as I do. Half the oil change intervals.

Mines on 152,000 miles and goes very well.i have the adaptive suspension with the anctive antiroll and variable damper setup and its superb. Pillow softy and wafty or stiff and unforgiving or in between at the flick of a switch.

Don’t think the comfort seats are that much better than the standard ones but I’m not a fan on the sports seat as they make my thighs ache on long journeys.

Also don’t assume it’s got xenons or LED lights. Mines got halogen and they’re rubbish and a retrofit is v hard and v expensive.

That goes for ALL options. Folding mirrors, cameras, nav, radio etc. Don't assume like I did that your old car's options are on the new one!

Thanks all for your input.

I think I am going to wait and save a bit more cash and go for the G30 with the B57 engine. I'd like the G11 but I think that's too much above my budget

Any known issues with these?
