Main dealer servicing or specialist?
Discussion
Our car (cayenne diesel) has full dealer history so far, but as it's out of warranty and diesels are getting a bad rep, is it worth going to a good independent rather than stick with a dealer? Obviously dealers are more expensive, but is it worth sticking to them for services to keep the 'full dealer service history' tag?
Hi!
Once most Porsches get to 8 years or so old, there's much benefit to going to a reputable Indy for servicing. In most cases, they'll be anywhere between 30 or 40% cheaper than an OPC - in some cases more for items like brake fluid changes - and you'll usually get the same or better customer service. The only thing you won't get is a Porsche loan car while yours is in, but is that really worth the OPC premium?
Having a full 'main dealer' history doesn't mean much to people who know what they're looking at anyway, specially if you've got a nice receipt stack to back up the stamps in the book and any remedial work you have done outside of normal servicing. Also bear in mind that most OPCs will be of the 'You must change these items NOW' mentality, whereas an Indy will know how much more life can be taken out of brakes, tyres etc. before they actually need replacing.
