Using We Buy Any Car
Discussion
Evening,
Just wanted to post some positive feedback on using We-buy-any-Car to dispose of your current car, which I have done today. In my car the car was a BMW 330d Touring that I bought new on 1st March 2014 and had 79360 miles on the clock when I sold it. I paid £37,490 for it new from my local dealer.
I had a Part-exchange offer in place as a baseline with my local dealer, which I obtained in December at £10k, which I felt at the time was low but I accepted that expecting to look elsewhere. I started looking at Evans Halshaw and We Buy Any Car. Eventually I got a quote of £12,500 from WBAC, and once I'd put my known damage (stone chips and touch up stick applied on bonnet, small scratch and touch up on a door, two alloys with bubbling) the quote was reduced to £12,098.
Took the car along today and the price I got was the price they quoted online, no mark down, no arguing, just 15 minutes and I went home with the money in my bank account. It's very easy to see why people don't sell their cars privately now... I got 20% more than I was going to get in PX and it took me a 5 minute online quote and 15 minutes in person. Win-win really.
Overall the 330d has been an excellent car by the by - including Fuel, Tax, Insurance, Servicing/Parts, Tyres and Depreciation it has cost me just under 60p a mile to run, averaging 42.7mpg and dealing well with family life.

Is there any admin fee or other hidden cost?
There is an admin fee (which varies based on vehicle value) and this is stated from the start, there's also a fee (also stated) if you want same day payment. Whilst the price quoted doesn't include those fees, it isn't hidden IMO25k depreciation eek! In hindsight, would a lease have worked out better in annual depreciation? I think this is the way i'll be going.
Surely it was worth trying to sell it privately, doesn't sound like you tried? Must be worth at least 2k more privately.
I am (slowly) selling my 63 plate 320d at the moment at £9.5k and finally have some viewings this weekend booked following a price drop. The best online quote I have got so far is £8,600 prior to sight of the car. I can't bring myself to use them just yet, as I'm pretty sure i'll get at least £500 more privately which is about what i paid for the replacement car ! It is a shed obviously...
We want your car , or similar, has the best price so far. Tried Tootle and another which pitches the car to dealers but didnt get any decent responses (less than WBAC etc.)

The cheapest 330d touring on a 14 plate is 14,495.
So well done for selling your car too cheap.

The difference is the OP has got his money instantly and isn't going to spend his weekend dealing with no shows and other idiots. I appreciate everyone wants to get as much money as they can, but sometimes the easiest way is the best way.
FWIW I have used WBAC and Evans Halshaw. WBAC is by far the slicker system. The WBAC agent can make his own decisions on the spot, everything done at EH has to go through head office...

I’m in the process of selling my grandfather’s car through Tootle. Seems decent so far, but will find out for sure next week when the dealer who’s offered on it is coming out to inspect / collect it.
I used tootle once and a couple of companies came out on top with better offers for my car. Got to said places and they tried to knock off 3k on a 26k car. Even the person attending to the car said he couldnt pick a single fault, it was flawless.
Went to WBAC and they knocked off 100 quid which was prob just to make themself feel better. Similar to the OP though, I liked how easy it was and the offer price being so darn close to the onlin quote.

Well, given the WBAC route is effectively still a trade route, it is not surprising that the price given is lower than a retail example. OP still did better than his other trade bid. The cheapest 330d touring on a 14 plate is 14,495.

I sold my c63 last year to Evans Halshaw as their price was £2k higher than WBAC, knocked £200 off as 2 wheels needed refurbing, was a chip in the windscreen and light scuff on the bumper. Took it in they did inspection about 15 mins, they then have to send it off to head office rang me back later that day with the new offer sort a time to drop off, another 15 mins of paperwork and money transferred straight into my account. Car was back up for sale for £1k more a couple weeks later. I’d happily use them again if need to sell and not PX.

25k depreciation eek!
It does look horrible when you see it written down, and the original cost will have been heavily discounted.Even the 60p per mile feels like a lot - bearing in mind the best you're likely to get if using the car for work is 45p (or much less if you also get an allowance).
I sold my 18 plate Fiat 124 Spider recently to EH. It is now advertised at £15,250. WBAC quoted £11,800, including £75 for a repair (the tiniest mark, could be polished out) and £75 fee). I advertised on AutoTrader for £12,899 and then £12,600, no interest whatsoever. I then got a quote from EH of £12,926 and sold for £12,900. It took a while - was there for about 2.5 hours most of that waiting for head office to come back to me - but painless and sold for more than I advertised it for privately!
I can recommend 'we want any car'. After WBAC did the "it's £400 less than the quote, before we look at it, because it's the end of the month' nonsense, tried WWAC. They gave a quote, then came to the house in a marked van. Gave us £100 more than we intended to advertise it for privately, transferred the money immediately, then picked the car up next day. Most painless sale ever
