I've just inherited a k3 gsxr 600. The front tyre is knackered but it's got a brand new pirelli diablo on the back. I know there are much better tyres out there but the tight jock in me doesn't want to throw a new tyre away.

The bike will be used on road and track (novice aiming to be comfortable in inters by the end of the year)

Am I best to just put the same on the front for now? Will they be ok on track? I know they won't be as good as the power rs or supercorsa sp on my other bikes.

I currently have a Diablo on the rear of a Cb600f and, while I have no chance of getting near the tyres capabilities, I have not had any issues in the past 12 months.
If it’s new, I don’t see the point in changing it and just throwing money away, even if you abuse it during the summer and wear it out quicker than you normally would, at least you would have had some fun doing so.

I'd always match tyres, the question is more about will a pirelli diablo be good enough for track work albeit at a steady pace

They aren’t bad at all when warm.

Compound sget updated as tyres get newer so unless it’s a 15 year old tyre you will be fine.

Assuming the tyre is the correct design for the job, I would only worry about the age of the tyre. Please report back if you track the Diablo and find that you instantly outstrip the ability of the tyre...

Why would you throw it away? So many options from matching a front and riding accordingly as suggested already or just putting to one side for when you sell the bike

My choice would be to buy a set of Supercorsa scrubs and a spare back wheel (£200? all in) and then just ride on whichever suits. Spare back wheel (or a full set) always useful when tracking bikes and always retains its value when you move the bike on.

I'm not sure that 's a great picture for advertising the grip of a tyre (assuming that's the point of the picture) given the condition of those leathers winkbiggrin

So the general consensus is they'll be fine. Theres not a hope in hell of my abilities being anywhere near the level of the bike/tyre.

I've ordered a front now. Worst case, if I don't like them then I'll replace with something else once they're knackered. As much as I love the grip from the supercorsas on my 848, i think something like mezeler M7RR will be more than enough for me.

Thanks for all the replies
