most likley a rubber bushing showing signs of age like perishing or cracking but still fit for use , may well have several years more use in it , replace your tyre and forget about it

N/S/F = nearside front (nearest to kerb, or left to you and me)
O/S/F = offside front
More likely bushes than brushes. hehe

Sorry, can't help with pricing.

We had this on our Mondeo recently, after a few months it started squeaking really badly. Both (change them in pairs) replaced for £350.

Eybic OMG that is so pricey. How much. Thought it may be around the 100 mark :-( Thank you everyone else for the above replies. Still not sure what is the purpose the brush things do. Worried if they malfunction. xx

its an advisory that theyre not perfect , not a letter to go out and replace them now before the car crashes into a hedge and catches fire

ignore it , the suspension will start to clonk when theyre ready fr replacement

Your tyres may be wearing funny because the bushes are shot however, so depending what it is, you might find it chews up new tyres pretty quickly too...

BUSH, not brush. They stop metal parts banging and rubbing against each other.

If it's a Mk2 Focus, that bush at the back of the front control arm should be replaceable separately. Probably £50ish for a pair of them plus paying for the time to fit, and it's generally good practice to have the alignment checked when you've been messing about with suspension bits like that.

If it's an advisory it doesn't need doing right this second, but they're not going to magically fix themselves, so probably best to get a quote for having them done.

Any wear on suspension bushes (not brushes) will eventually cause:
Wheel alignment issues, leading to tyre wheel and steering or handling concerns (may not be dangerous, but just feel a bit vague)
Then knocking.
Then failure of bushing material, with extremely vague handling and steering. The suspension will not come apart, as there will still be some retention of the suspension arm.
Just ring around for quotes. A fairly standard job for any garage to do.

Ask the person who did the MOT, not some random strangers on the internet.

She has done the right thing by asking on a motoring forum!
Going to a garage, or Kwik-fitup and sounding inexperienced and naive will automatically triple the price!

She's asking what they are. The person to ask is the one who did the test and yes get a price, too, you don't have to accept it and can shop around now you can show someone else what it is.
When I get mine done I stay with it and they point out what it is (if anything).

It isn't difficult.

ideally find yourself a trusted garage that will inspect the car and give you an honest answer

some garages will make a long list of advisory's and then lean on the customer and suggest that they need repairing when they dont

without looking at them who knows...could need doing within 12 months or could soldier on for years and years

I’ve had advisories in the past for gaiters, bushes and bearings, didn’t do anything, next year the car sailed through MOT with a clean sheet! There are too many chancers out there who will scare people into unnecessary expense!

And equally as many dodgy MOT guys who either ignore dangers or problems ( often these sell cars too lol ), or those who report many "problems" as they want the job fixing them.
