Is it weird to have your (dead) pet stuffed?

Chatting to a mate in the pub and he plans to have his dog stuffed when it dies.... the dog (a terrier) is quite young and healthy at the moment.

I think this is deeply weird, he thinks it's quite normal. I think he's wrong, he thinks he's right. Normal impasse.

We have agreed that a poll is the only answer.

Of course not. In addition to pets, I have all my dead relations stuffed and arranged around the house.

I think I would only miss my dog more with a motionless reminder hanging around. I don't think my new dog when I get one would be very impressed either.

So weird it's almost disturbing. Who wants a stuffed corpse looking at you with glass eyes? I'd prefer the happy memories not a death reminder.

It is very weird and isn't something that we would do, we have the ashes of our first dog; Humphrey, in a box, in our lounge, people think that is weird.

Same here, we have the ashes of our old dog Lucy. some people get it others don't. We would however, never, consider having one stuffed!

My OH pretty much insists that we keep my cockers ashes so they are in a box on a bookshelf in my study.

Personally I find it a bit weird & unfair, he will be scattered when I decide where is best.

I have the ashes from my last dog who died 4 years ago. Can't bring myself to dispose of them, even though we've had another rescue for 3 years.

Stuffing is just creepy though

We have the ashes and some of the ashes are made into jewels so my OH can wear them on a necklace. But would never have one stuffed.

Same here! But anyway, having absolutely broken my heart on more than one occasion over pets I can't see how having a gutless, motionless carcass that used to be something you loved to bits sat in the living room looking at you through glass eyes is a good idea? Surely if it's sat there looking at you, you can't move on and get over it? It's a bit like having your nan stuffed and put in the corner...

You can have your pet cremated with other animals in a kind of mass cremation and you get back a portion of the total ashes, or you can have your pet cremated by itself and get back just its ashes.

The mass cremation is a fair bit cheaper than a single cremation; Humphrey was done by himself.

I don’t know not something I try to think about.

My boy is so beautiful I sit and look at him throughout the day. In a way I suppose I’d like to still do that but I don’t think I could.
