Replacing rear badge

After some technical knowledge from fellow PH'ers. Got a 500 but with a normal rear chim badge. Had to buy one with the correct info, but am having problems accessing it. Pulling up the carpet in the boot reveals a closed in section. Was wondering if you can get at it by removing the light cluster. Have found nothing in the bible.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Pull back the carpet/lining. All will be revealed.

The rear badge can be a bit tricky, replaced mine with a Leven one about a year ago. There are two nuts that hold it in place, to find these you need pull back the carpet and reach up between the glassfibre panels. I just managed to get a spanner in to undo them, then took them off by hand, with scratched knuckles.

Putting the new badge on is harder when you try to put the nuts back on by hand. I was recommended to put some sealer on the back of the new badge, to stop water getting in.

... and DON'T over tighten them...!!

..and don't drop your nuts!!! (the last thing you'll want rattling around in the boot cavity!)

Has anyone done this "instead" of refitting the nuts and is it sufficient to hold the badge?
I ask as I am about to send mine off for refurbishing.

I've used silicone for a number of DIY jobs. One benefit is that its bond strength is relatively poor and can be easily removed later.

I'd still use nuts and bolts even with Silicone.

Seen it done, and I know of a few cars that have it. Just make sure that you use good stuff that is water resistant!

I wouldn't, unless you're keeping below 30mph... the ribbon will damage the paint... been there, done that.

New badge fitted and looking good. I obviously didn't look hard enough behind the carpet. Found the cutting to access it second time.
