I visited a dealer earlier today. They didn't have any cars in Urano Grey so would be interested in opinions. The sales guy was dead against it, said that maintenance would be hard because it's not metallic and would not look good quickly after washing. Thoughts?

It seems to be the only "free" colour ,dealer wants you to spend more on another colour.

It's grey ,IMO ,no one "wants" grey ,not ever.

Haha, we’ll my current car is Indium Grey, and the BMW I have on order is Mineral Grey, both cost options!

Urano is awful though, IMO.

My car is silver /grey too ,only one on sale at the time, at the place to go for Barchettas.

If it was orange , car would be perfect.

We had it on a Tiguan and I really liked it, took on a greenish shade in bright sunlight, not hard to keep clean, suited the SEL version which had a lot of plain plastic trim.

I’ve seen it on an Arteon and not sure it worked as well there.

My mam's just last week got a Polo R Line in Urano with the black roof and mirror caps. It look nice in the sun I think.

Avoid, looks bloody awful. Like a dark primer that’s been given a gloss coat.

I think white is the other non-cost colour and as much as I’m against white cars generally, anything is better than Urano....

They charge for while on some, if not all, models. Story goes it was because too many people were choosing it.

I find VWs attitude odd - years ago with company cars we could only have metallic as it helped the resale, yet when I looked at PCH on a Tiguan the extra monthly for metallic over 3yrs was more that it cost as an option!

I admit that I only know of white being a standard colour (together with Urano) because I was recently looking at Tiguan lease deals. I do think it’s a deliberate ploy though, the colour is hideous in person, be it sunny or dreary, it’s just bad, as evidenced by the above images!

Same with the GTi having the hideous purple colour as free.

Utterly subjective so a pointless discussion. I'll still add my view though. smile

Much better than any shade of blue, red or white you could pick from the options list IMHO.

Looked for a tiguan colour for my mum and didn't like the urano at all. Looked too dull so went for tungsten silver instead

My Passat Alltrack was Urano. Looked great when freshly cleaned and suites the car. It does not look dull if waxed.

But as someone else said - colour choice is purely subjective and IMO some cars look better in some colours than others.

On a cheap lease I would always go for the free option unless it was pink. For a keeper it would depend on the car - I always thought a Porsche or other sporty car should be a bright crazy colour, not resale metallic grey or silver....

My CC is a passat, Urano was the only free colour so i went with that and got the massaging drivers seat instead of a metallic.

I think it looks alright, shows the scratches up more than a metallic finish.

Its also not my problem to sell on.

Get with it, Grey is very 'in' at the moment... but it has to be the right shade. Somewhere between clear coated primer and Dove grey.

Doubt Urano fits that description though

VW Colour options are abysmal. They do a solid red (solid as in non-metallic, not solid as in 'good'), a very conservative metallic blue (conservative as in boring), and other than that you've got varying degrees of monochrome and a beige or two.

Had an urano alltrack now an urano touran. If you're leasing and not bothered about colour then go for it.

If you are buying and keeping the car long term then definitely see it before you commit as it's an acquired taste and quite model dependant.

Thanks for all the comments, pics and opinions! It's great to know that there's no maintenance issues with the colour.

I quite like the Turmeric shade they do on the Golf, but it's expensive to add onto a lease or PCP.
