hey

day job means a large faced, easy to read, with second hand analogue watch is very desirable.

due to the frequent issue of it getting covered in blood, etc, being easy to clean is also very desirable

as for price, anything up to £150 is great - any more not worth it due to chance of damage.

ive considered the citizen eco drive bm8476-15x and the seiko one 487p1 but other suggestions gratefully received.

the simpler the face to read, the better !

many thanks all

Buy a G Shock, if working in the emergency services I would 100% not wear a metal or nylon strapped watch.

Nah, this Is over budget spin

Designed specifically for the job, though.

OP - Unless you think you'll benefit from a rotating bezel I'd avoid that type of watch, it'll just be something else that could potentially crud up. As already suggested have a look at some of the analogue G-Shocks, failing that choose something with a plain bezel and a screw down crown.

Blood? Ew!

Bought a Seiko Lorus Lumibrite Quartz for flying. Has a bright 38mm face which is pale cream/yellow in daylight, but dial is luminous so sweep second hand can be read easily in dark conditions. Can be read from ten paces away, five paces at night. Entire face glows like green Kryptonite in the dark.

Terrific watch for dark/shady conditions, can read the second hand at night. Screw down back and 100m water resistant, so can be washed. Crown protector shoulders, slim case depth to prevent knocks. Day/date. So far, accurate to three secs a month.

It takes a NATO strap but can add an 18mm steel bracelet if needed. I put a £6 leather strap on mine. Pinhole type spring bar removal.

A lot of nurses are wearing the Lorus Lumibrite fob watch-thing at my local AE - they say they can see the second hand for ad-hoc pulse readings in dark wards at night..

Currently reduced to £22 at Argos. :-)

Or maybe a Seiko quartz. Google 'Military' watches.

That's the spitting image of a Timex Expedition Scout redface.

But for the love of god, replace that fabric strap with rubber biggrin.

Large and clear would point you towards a pilot style watch but they are generally on a leather band but you could swap it for silicon or rubber.

£50 (with possibly more discount available) looks vaguely Longines in style, super easy to read and 100m. Just change the strap and job done.

no auto servicing poor time keeping jankiness, no batteries to replace every 2 years or so, large, simple, easy to read, works forever.

Seiko do other solar ones, not just dress watches, I also have a solar diver that's tough as old boots.

Many thanks for this link; Ive been rather taken by the Junkers watches. They look decent VFM but obviously a premium to the others i originally spoke about.]

Again, ty all for your suggestions

Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier given I have one upstairs...

Also available as an automatic Seiko 5 if that's preferred.

Loads of good suggestions so far.

One more to consider - the Victorinox INOX quartz range.

They're built to withstand being run over by a 64 tonne tank, a 10 metre drop onto concrete etc etc. Tough little buggers, fine looking things and available on a rubber strap.

these really would stop a tank; my list is now growing far quicker than I had expected!

I'm thinking some kind of diver on a rubber strap. Easy to read and will be waterproof so you can clean it by dipping your hand in a bucket of water.
