I've just got to say how stupid some people are complaining about the new weather format on the BBC. It's leagues ahead of where it was before but it will take a little getting used to.

Some people also complained about "the size of Scotland" because of the way it's depicted on a 3D map!!!??? What planet are some people on? Major slap for them!
You really get some annoying people stuck in a time warp who have no positive thoughts about technological change.
Anyhow, I think all they really need to do is change the map colour but overall, I think it's brilliant!

I still suspect that the weather forecasts are "massaged" by the BBC on behalf of the government, to reduce traffic congestion and/or help the tourist industry. Just look at how many times the weekend weather looks promising, they forecast rain so we scrap all our travel plans, then it turns out to be sunny anyway. Or they'll forecast sun and it turns out rainy, so we have to spend our weekend poking around damp gift shops in Swanage

I'd complain if I were you, mate!To my mind, the old maps were much clearer. I don't understand why we need animated rainclouds to indicate rain. The old magnets stuck on a board worked just as well. One of the key complaints is the the whole country is now grey / brown, and rainy areas are now brighter than the sunny areas 
No doubt we will all get used to it, but it does seem a waste of effort and money. And IMHO it does add a touch of chav.

Given isobars and wind speed/direction indicators I could make a reasonable stab at forecasting the weather myself from basic meteorological concepts, now I cannot. The system is an ugly and confusing hotch-potch which gives less information than the previous system, and I don't think it's unreasonable to complain about the gross perspective foreshortening of Scotland either, how would the London centrics like it if the viewpoint were from somewhere north of Shetland?

Einon yrth - spot on. We studied the interpretation of synoptic weather charts in school so that nowadays I have a good chance of interpreting what is going on by looking at a proper weather chart - not this nonsense Bugs Bunny presentation.
On the other hand, I find the BBC Internet Weather Site very good, particularly their animation of the weather radar imagery over "x" hours. It really gives you a good idea as to where the rainfall actually is and where it is going to be over the next few hours. Ideal if I am deciding whether I am going to drive my Seven or my Mazda.
