Best 55" to 60" TV advice please!
Discussion
Hi All
I've decided to replace my 50" Panasonic as it is nearly a decade old.
The size of the unit including its thick plastic surround is 55" so I am comfortable with a modern 55" TV that would take up the same space. I wouldn't rule out a 60" but I don't want it to take over the room, so I am thinking 55" is probably the better option (I have a dedicated cinema room with a c. 9 foot screen anyway).
I am also dumping Sky as we never use it and so would like the free view channels and then it would just be Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime and catch up.
An integrated HD and high quality sound system would be desirable too.
I'm looking for something very slim and pretty (still on about the TV BTW) and as close to being edge to edge screen as is possible.
I also want to see films portrayed as the director intended, so the ability to turn off whatever filter it is that makes everything look so ultra clear is important!
Budget wise, whilst not wanting to pay more than necessary I am happy to pay what is needed to get what I am looking for.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I would go with OLED screen from LG as the picture is very good and the cost is way down.
Well worth going for sound bar for audio and nothing built in is going to be any good.
I agree with the LG OLED screen but I find the E-series (OLED55E8) to be perfectly fine for sound unless you're after a home cinema trouser-flapping bass experience and even then I wouldn't recommend a soundbar.Well worth going for sound bar for audio and nothing built in is going to be any good.
Thanks very much guys, the OLED55E8 looks like what I will go for.
Interestingly, it measures up as being smaller than my current one, so I could go larger. I've tried a google search changing the 55 in the product number to 60, but not come up with anything. Does LG have a 60" version?
Also, the (I think Phillips) one with the ambient back lighting - looks good in photos, but should I ignore in favour of better image quality?
Many thanks, seriously.

I bought the 55B8 and it’s a hell of a TV. Enjoy the E8
Hi mate, I have no idea what the numbers mean, I just didn't want to waste money!I imagine the difference between each model is not obvious to everyone, like the development of the 911, but seriously apparent to those who know.
I'm looking forward to it!
Cheers
Julian
LG are about to release a 2019 version of their OLED screens, which will have a newer Alpha 9 (2nd gen) processor and proper HDMI 2.1 sockets (4K up to 120fps)
It will mean that all of last years screens and the ones older than that will probably come down in price, or will also have the buy now, claim £200 back from the manufacturer offer.
Sorry, no idea on release date of the newer screens, but it's soon from what i've seen.

Once you’ve done that, check out the David Attenborough Dynasties series in 4K on BBC, pour yourself a glass, sit back and admire your handiwork.

I have the 65 C8, stunning picture, you can YouTube HDR content for over exaggerated 4K video (I did this a bit just because it was my first 4K TV)Once you’ve done that, check out the David Attenborough Dynasties series in 4K on BBC, pour yourself a glass, sit back and admire your handiwork.
Dynasties blew me away as it was on when I bought the TV, if only it were still available on iPlayer
. Opening scene from the first ep of the grand tour is a good demo video too.juggsy said:

Regrettably not (unless via dodgy download from somewhere) https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/programme-avail...Any others that maximise the initial experience greatly appreciated...!
It’s a shame the bbc aren’t planning any more 4K content, the documentary stuff in particular.
