Where to go for a new 718
Discussion
Hi all,
I bought an early 718 S in July 2016 and traded it in for a gts in March 2018. Unfortunately that car developed an oil leak within a couple of weeks and needed major work so I rejected it. I lost some money in the deal due to the way the px had been priced and lost my old car as that had gone in a few months before on the back of a predicted 8 week wait that turned into about 20 weeks.
Anyway water under the bridge now and I’m looking at trying again with a gts. However since the rejection went through I’ve been ignored by the opc and blanked from all emails, invites etc. No contact at all despite them knowing how much I loved the S and was looking forward to the gts. I even made contact recently and that’s been ignored.
Given that I feel like I’ve been excluded I’m wondering where to go now. Any recommendations of decent opc gratefully received.
Thanks.

There are probably lots of people on here with good experience of their dealers. If you let us have an idea of your location you might get more specific suggestions.
It seems very short sighted of the dealer to cease communication with you because you rejected a car, given you were happy with the previous one, and if the complaint wasn't justified they would surely have refused to take it back?

Thanks all.
I'm not sure naming and shaming is allowed.
They didn't really have much choice on the rejection. The engine/transmission needed to come out and they were talking about putting a "remanufactured" transmission in - i.e. a reconditioned unit into a 3 week old 300 mile car. No thanks.
I'm in Leeds in the next few weeks and regularly in that area so I'll call in and perhaps the new dealership in Preston is worth a look.

Having switched from BMW to Porsche within the same Motor group I was surprised that despite the initial gloss around the OPC showroom attitudes to issues with the car can be dismissive. The hierarchy of purchasers leaves me in the poverty class (only a new
991Carrera T) whereas the serial GT buyers " I can get a GT2RS after trading back my GT3/GT3RS on SOR" appear as the favoured elite
I don't really have a problem with that it's part of life. Try booking certain London restaurants!! However it has probably put me off
continuing with Porsche in the future, which of course has no impact on anyone but myself.

If the dealer was suggesting putting in a “remanufactured" transmission in a 3 week old car that would suggest that Porsche Germany rejected the claim and the dealer was trying to fix the car the cheapest way possible as they would have to wear the whole cost. Or maybe just trying it on with you to see if that solution would be acceptable. Very surprising behaviour either way.
Your rejection sounds entirely justified of course, did you have to get solicitors letters involved to get them to take it back? That’s often a reason for a shut down in communications, unless you came to blows with the DP or something (joke)
Anyway, in the current climate, if you walk in to any OPC with money to buy a 718, they will be biting your arm off.

In motor industry language a "remanufactured" unit is identical to a "new" unit. The remanufacture may even be carried out in the same factory as original manufacture."Remanufactured" = dismantled and ALL wearing parts replaced, irrespective of actual wear.
"Reconditioned" = dismantled, checked and any worn parts replaced.
Another new dealership? Thats 10 within driving distance for me - some very optimistic forecasts out there then. That must require a significant increase in market share as overall vehicle sales particularly in the premium sector don't look like they are growing much. Seems to me that Porsche will struggle unless they both improve their more generic offerings and the way they are bringing them to market at the moment.
Based on interaction with sales at one OPC last week they'll need to develop an attitude that goes beyond picking and choosing who they feel deserves the cars that sell themselves anyway and focus on the other 95% of the range that has to pay the bills.

@rockin
Taking your definition of remanufactured - which I am not disputing at all- if all wearing parts are replaced in a transmission doesn’t that pretty much just leave the casing? Surely the time and expense of doing that is similar to the cost of grabbing a new transmission off the factory shelf in Germany?
Maybe they didn’t even need to tell the OP that level of detail - they could have just said - no problem- new transmission going in for you as a warranty repair.
The OP probably still had a right to reject a 3 week old car for a major reason like that though.
Let’s say the engine blew after 3 weeks, can you reject the car back? Or do they just give you a new engine under warranty and you are obliged to accept?
I can only assume the OP dug in about not wanting the car back -which I can understand- and the OPC decided he was a pain for not complying?!

Need to name and shame otherwise you could get lot of people on here wasting their time posting an OPC recommendation that is the one you don't want to use

Correct me if I'm wrong but the above sounds like only electronic contact (or non contact as the case may be). Have you tried walking in and announcing to the receptionist that you'd like to order a new car and would like to speak to someone about it?Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
