Joining a dual carriageway 70 mph limit, at night, travelling at 70, overtook a couple of cars, returned to the inside lane as normal. Planning to overtake another car, checked mirror, saw a car slowly approaching in the outside lane, about 30 car lengths back. After giving this car plenty of time to overtake me and noting that his speed was decreasing, I overtook the car ahead, returned to inside lane, to allow the other car behind to overtake. But he just sat in the outside lane, 20 car lengths back now, not gaining on me and not returning to the inside lane.

Then he started exceeding 70 and ended up right in my blindspot, effectively trapping me in the inside lane. He stayed there for 2 mins. Having had several strange "entrapment style" experiences with local plod, I became suspicious, so told passenger to prepare for a dab of the brakes, which I planned in order to reveal the identify of this vehicle.

Lo and behold it was a fully marked up Ford Mondeo, which reacted to my braking by braking himself, leaving him now still alongside but now my bonnet was alongside his rear door. Then he began moving across into the inside lane despite being alongside still, forcing me into the extreme left of my lane! I braked some more to let him in, then he coasted into the lane ahead of me, lifting off the accelerator down to about 50mph over the next 500 metres. He then booted it to the next junction and turned off.

No, I was on the way to hospital to visit my mother, so had more important stuff to worry about than reporting police misbehaviour at the time. Wish I had now.

As mentioned, I've had experienced several instances of this type of behaviour from police, is it abuse of power or are they really trying to create situations where a driver they are targetting will react to their behaviour by breaking some petty out of date motoring law?

I used to have respect for the police.

I'd have used the horn when he started drifting...that he clearly wasn't aware of your position because he was allowing himself to drift.

I had a similar thing on the A38 about 2 years ago. In this case I was overtaking an officer, he was doing about 65ish I was doing 70 on an NSL Duel, and he suddenly cut across me and pulled back in.

I know my speedo was correct as I had a GPS backup on the dash at the time.

As much as the officers will deny it on here, some officers are simply c**ts. They are only human as well and it happens.

Not good. I lost a lot of respect that day for the police.

RE my old post about the white mondy unmarked car on the A90 'tween perth & dundee.......just about the same style of baiting, just waiting for you to exceed their "trigger" speed as you try and re-create a "safety space" in the traffic flow.

Don't think I've ever disputed that. You get 'em in every walk of life. It's just in our line, the ones that are, make it a LOT harder for the ones that aren't.

Oh, they can, it's just that working in the public sector gives you that much more protection through bureaucracy. My mum has had no end of trouble trying to sack one of her staff...despite being disruptive in the office and failing to perform duties to an adequate standard.

Perhaps your Mum would have more success if she stopped being so disruptive and performed her tasks to an adequate standard.

Bugger, the infamous "mum" comeback...there's no defence or response to that, I'm going to have to go and hide in shame!

There are nobbers in every job. It's just that in our job they can show the world they are nobbers.

The decent ones winkle them out, and take the p1ss accordingly. There is a big difference in being firm, but fair to being a tw@.

Not very eloquent, but point passed.

Unless Mum puts a pillow up her jumper and claims "It's on the way"
The defense may fail upon arriving at hospital though.....
