Free Octane Magazines

I've posted several times before when this subject comes up and while, if you are searching for something specific you are prepared to pay for it, in the main old magazines are just literally dead weight. As far as the OP is concerned what I would do is take them to the doctors surgery as I used to during the 80s and 90s. They had all been "appropriated" the next time I went and at least someone got pleasure from them. The photo here is of my problem - nearly 25 years of Autocar from the mid-fifties to 1980 and the same for Motor Sport, all given to me years ago. I have found someone who will take them on when I turn up my toes, together with all the specialist books, car brochures, models et al, but it wasn't easy. He may well throw away the magazines and keep the rest but I'm pretty sure he won't. But I'll never know, will I?
A friend was at the Antwerp Classic Salon last weekend and spoke to an English book dealer he knows, hoping to off-load some magazines on him. 'No thanks' was the reply, 'I'm stocked out with magazines'. When asked about motoring books the dealer said that almost every week a widow phones asking if he'll be interested in her late husband's collection. He reckons the book collecting motoring enthusiast is dying off and not being replaced by a similar interest from the younger generation.
Similar situation to the OP in that I have pretty much every issue of Evo magazine since day 1. A few missing that mates have borrowed and never returned. Seems a shame to recycle them but I need to get rid. People do stick them on eBay for ridiculous prices but I doubt very much they ever sell. Even my local doctors doesn’t take magazines now due to ‘risk of infection’

after 6 weeks , new reading material is like gold dust
its a shame I'm back in 3 weeks ..but sadly The new forest is a bit far to come

That's an awesome idea. I wonder if there is some way to post them out. I have loads of mags myself, Evo, Classic Cars etc after 6 weeks , new reading material is like gold dust

I wouldn't think of it. If we all pull together we can hire a container and send them, but if you look at my office above I reckon there is nearly half a ton of reading material. Paper is very heavy; I've just weighed the copy of the new Magneto magazine that dropped through my letter box and it weighs 760 gms. the OP has 36 in that pile, so we are already at over 27 kgs. But what appals me is the post above where the doctor refused the magazines because of the risk of infection. Are all surgeries like that now - barren, sterile, no radio, TV and no reading material?
