OPC Hatfield service staff - arrogant tossers!!
Discussion
...I swear, if I didn't have a Porsche warranty and didn't need to claim under it, I would NEVER use an OPC again!
Dropped my car off this morning and was greeted with such disinterest, arrogance and disdain that I felt like telling them where to stick their courtesy car and leaving.
Left my car with them anyway, as I need to get the air-con fixed and there's a small oil leak from the breather tank.
Complete bunch of tw@ts.
Sorry - had to get that off my chest. Don't normally have a rant at anyone.

Vote with your feet. I had a bad experience at Guildford, so went & had my next service at Reading (even though its 20 miles further to drive) Then had a good experience back at Guildford & have returned to them for servicing.
Their attitudes made me laugh. I wore scruffy jeans & a T-shirt which probably did it, but basic courtesy doesn't cost anything.....well it cost them well over £1k for the service & parts sales they lost !

What other OPCs have you tried?
...I've had dealings with OPC's in West london, Reading and Lancaster Cambridge. None were particularly fantastic, but no real complaints (apart from not keeping me informed of what's happening to my car!).
This was the first time using Hatfield (as they were on my way to work this week). Only consolation is that the Cayenne I've got as a courtesy car is O.K. (although it's only the wheezy 3.2V6). Looks bearable in black - never driven one before.
Had the same sort of problem at the same OPC. I had a Boxster then, they damaged (slightly) the rear PU. They denied any responsibility despite them returning the car to my home the next day because they could not find my keys when I went to collect it. They offered to change the brake fluid for free, it should have been done in the service, as a without prejudice compensation!!!! Never again.

Hope they don't read this and 'accidentally' leave your brake pads out

Being mindful of this sites naming and shaming policy, What happened? What did they or didn't they do. Was the place too busy at drop off time, ie they need more people handling drop offs?
When I drop my car off at my OPC I tend to be in a hurry so I'm in and and out within 5 minutes. With the details of work required having been passed on at the time of booking the car in, it's generally a case of here's the keys, call me if you find anything odd or when it's ready.

Cayenne eh. I normally get fobbed off with a 3 series or a golf! Still that's my OPCs problem, they've lost out on selling a Cayenne as I've ordered another M-class.

Dom - I'm not especially worried - from what I hear about them now, they will probably leave my brake pads out even if I hadn't pissed them off!

Daz - I'm aware of the N&S policy on PH but sometimes people need a heads-up on certain matters and it may even make OPC's pull their socks up on the customer service front. My local BMW dealer treated me like the Sultan of Brunei when I popped in last (...O.K., I was enquiring about the new M5, but hey!).
The service department wasn't busy at all - I was the only one being 'attended' to. Just a complete lack of interest and 'customer service' in the truest sense of the word.
On the courtesy car front - I'm surprised your OPC provides such cr@ppy ones! I was given the Cayenne as I insisted on a tiptronic car. Otherwise, it would have been a Boxster S!

Brave man... I take it you like your Merc dealer then...
They do a great job keeping the family fleet running. I even have the mobile number of the senior technician I always deal with. It helps that he is a complete and utter petrolhead. DAZ

You've found a good Merc dealer? Wow!

From what Daz has told me, I understand that the fleet (Merc and Pork) are both very well fettled.
My surprise was that the M-Class has a bit of a reputation for unreliability…

Podie, we've had an ML320 for about 6 1/2 years. Only non-service item has been a rear suspension component. Total cost for the part and fitting was about £400. Acordingly we've ordered the new version, but this time with the 3.2 diesel engine.
DAZ
Fair play, given that sort of history I can see the logic in sticking with the Merc.
I suppose it's like any car - some are better than others even though they leave the factory after each other...
even so, an m-class. never understood them really. i thought the interior build quality was atrocious and the road manners left something to be desired. but then again, if it's just for the mrs it doesn't matter. as long as its in a nice colour they don't normally care about such matters.

...that was certainly true of the OLD M-Class. The new one coming out soon has had very favourable reviews, as far as I'm aware.

Have to say i have nothing but praise for AFN Guildford (sorry OPC Guildford). Give them a try, but make sure you speak to Craig as he seems to have his head screwed on.
Just my 2P's worth.

Have to agree, I've had work done there on my old 993TT + C4S and have only praise... will be taking the GT3 there for service. Only downside was that Daryl the used car manager was trying to sell me a GT2 on my last visit, knowing that I had no money, but tempting me anyway.!
