Farnborough air show

A spokesman said "teams like the RAF Red Arrows could no longer perform aerobatic stunts at shows like Farnborough."
I hope she meant 'non-military teams similar to the Red Arrows' rather than 'teams such as the Red Arrows'.
Post-Shoreham the Red Arrows cannot perform at Farnborough, is how I’ve understood the situation now. I hope she meant 'non-military teams similar to the Red Arrows' rather than 'teams such as the Red Arrows'.

The Reds actually began to get concerned about carrying out their full routine during the week of the 2014 show - the year before Shoreham. They actually had two bird strikes at Farnborough in 2014 and they noted that there has been an increase in bird activity in and around the Farnborough area over the past few years - especially gulls. My theory is that the opening of multiple restaurants, take-aways and hotels in Farnborough since around 2010 has brought a big influx of scavenging birds into the area, making low level flying - especially display flying - more hazardous than it used to be.
Another factor has been the massive increase in housing and office development in and around the perimeter of the airfield. We have a whole new housing estate at the southern end of the airfield now plus quite a few new office blocks on the northern perimeter. There is also a permanent exhibition centre on site.
Finally, TAG (the airfield's owners) have made it very clear over the past few years that they do not like the inconvenience brought about by the flying display to their normal airfield operations. Sultans and Sheikhs do not like their routines having to be amended to suit the hoi polloi.
Shoreham didn't help - but, as ever, the real reasons are a bit more complex.

Working there, it's a shame the public display over the weekend is being s
t canned. Although last year's was absolutely terrible.
With the backlash for the extortionate entry fee, the piss poor food and their comical pricing and the lack of decent aircraft and flying display, I can see why they've cancelled it.
Why put on a show that people will just moan about if the aircraft are limited to what they can do?
Farnborough for many years now has been a sales meeting for airliners, that's where the money is made. The company will inevitable focus on that as the main revenue income.
There are so many better and free airshows around now, like Bournemouth, Southend etc.
As for the roads being chaotic, it's 1 week every 2 years.... Its annoying, but no more annoying then roadworks that happen all year round.

The BBC article does state that it is partly because of the poor feedback and criticism from last year
back to the Red Arrows, I see they are off the USA for part of the summer, but are they still allowed to do a full display over the sea?
The Red Arrows give full displays at lots of venues. Farnborough is a bit of a special case because of how built up the local area is (and those birds I mentioned earlier). back to the Red Arrows, I see they are off the USA for part of the summer, but are they still allowed to do a full display over the sea?

Southend air show hasn't existed since the council cancelled it in 2013!

So if any flying on the Friday is going to be the same as Mon-Tue, how hard is it to get into a trade day if you aren't in the trade? Easy enough at Paris if you look reasonably smart and carry a bundle of business cards, so I'm told. In fact providing you don't waste people time by pretending you are seriously interested in buying a jet I don't think they really care. But I get the impression Farnborough is stricter.
The flying programme remains much the same Monday to Thursday. Friday can be a bit different as some of the "trade" display aircraft start departing. When I arrived on the Friday last year the 787 was departing to head to its customer, Bangladesh Biman.
I have been able to obtain "Trade" tickets on a couple of occasions - usually through contacts who work in aerospace. I run my own business these days so may apply for a trade ticket myself in 2020.
