I'm considering getting SkyQ as I hear good things about it. I think I can live with the maximum of 4 mini boxes, but if I understand it correctly you can only have two mini boxes active at the same time, which I am concerned about.

How does that 2 mini box limitation manifest itself? Say you've got 2 mini boxes running and you power up a 3rd - what happens? Does one of the original 2 mini boxes power down, or does the 3rd not power up, or something else please?

Thanks

I believe you get a message on the third box telling you the maximum number of Sky Q mini boxes are already in use.

Thanks for that. It sounds like a pain...

It is a bit, because you have to go to one of them to turn it off before it frees up the 3rd.

We would prefer it (as AV Installers) if it gave you an option to kick one of the other ones off from the 3rd.

Of course, you can still have the Q Box and 2 Minis running.

Is a solution to the problem to install a video matrix (at vast expense)?

Possibly, but wouldn't you also need multiple Sky boxes to feed into the matrix, adding to the vast expense?

All my TVs currently share the same single Sky box, so I'm limited to the same feed in each room (apart from Netflix or whatever), and I'm fed up of Paw Patrol! SkyQ looked great apart from the limitations described above.

I was just about to move over to sky Q but that's a blocker for me. Our living room sky also feeds the kitchen ,(over RF) so, and my kids have a separate box shared between them. I was planning to get 3 boxes to replace the current setup.

If I can only use 2 at a time then it's a non starter.

No it is three, one Sky Q Silver (the 4k one) and two mini’s

It’s the introduction of a 3rd mini that causes the problem.

Thanks for clearing that up. I need at least 3 TV's with sky available.

I wish sky would move make it a cast service. With our Netflix subscription I can watch on 4 devices, and justcast to whatever TV I want. It's very very flexible.

That service is coming (sort of) later this year.

Removes the need for a dish for those that cant or wont have one.
