Hi,

I’m looking to a buy a 981 Boxster in Riviera blue before I do so I want to know is it worth the extra. How rare are they? Does anyone know how many were produced?

Thanks

It would have been a PTS special order, there won't be many at all. Exact numbers aren't readily available I don't think.

It's worth what you're prepared to pay and comes down to personal preference. As a cost option in its own right, it doesn't really hold tangible value.

You won't find out how many were produced but I'd be surprised if there were more than a handful in Riviera Blue. PTS was about £3.5k at the time but if you consider that cost as a total proportion of the price of the car, I don't think there would be many who would choose PTS over other options that £3.5k would buy on an entry level variant of a Boxster.

Slightly different on the 981 Spyder but it depends on the car as a total package. OPC Glasgow went through a phase of specifying their demonstrators in PTS, they were a useful source of reference when I was looking at the PTS catalogue and I think they included a few Boxsters.

VERY expensive option when new
VERY rare

Possible one of Porsche best ever colours.

Rare colour, but the original owner was stupid paying £3.5k for that extra. Shoulda just got a free colour then wrapped it.

Wrap will always be a wrap. Wraps are great for a short term change.

Never the same

Look at the price of viper green gt3 rs 991.1 being £30k more than other colours.

Colours make huge difference in porsche.

Well I’d say the car in question is around 4 or 5 grand more than a say a black one of the same year and miles. If I will get it extra than a black one on resale in 2 years then great it’s cool I’ll go for it. But if not then hmmm it’s a not.

Any true Porsche nuts on here who can possibly answer or share there thoughts?

It will depend if someone really wants that colour when you come to sell, but a £4-5k premium on a mainstream car sounds way over the top.

Are we talking a base 981 here?

Yes a 2.7 PDK with a few tasty options. PSE, Nav, sports seats plus full elec, etc.

Not hugely desirable then, and £4-5k is a huge chunk of the price.

It’s not worth £4K to £5k...and that’s speaking as someone who has a PTS Boxster sat on the drive. My wife’s 718 Boxster is Ruby Star (formerly known as Rubystone a la 964 RS). We bought it new so count as one of those daft customers that paid for it but my wife probably wouldn’t be driving it if it wasn’t that colour. She wanted a Pink Beetle....so she’s got a Dark Pink Porsche instead!

I’d say PTS on a base Boxster probably means you’d get full retail for it if you’re a dealer....as there will be someone that likes it especially in Riviera Blue. But you won’t get £5k over. GT cars are different, can make a big difference.

But it’s very, very subjective with PTS. JZM have a Voodoo Blue Boxster Spyder at the moment which they’ve had for several months and not sold, I’ve seen the car and I don’t think it suits it...Voodoo is darker than Riviera and for some reason I just don’t think it works (nor do JZM as they had the car originally when it was new and told me they didn’t think it worked then). The Ruby Star on my wife’s car works pretty well I think because the black roof and wheels break it up and contrast...I’ve seen a Ruby Star Cayman with Platinum wheels which didn’t work anywhere near as well.

Also have a PTS Sport Classic Grey Macan Turbo PP....I really like having cars that are a bit different to the norm.

I’ll be honest I’ve been looking for a 981 Boxster or S PDK low miles nice spec in white/yellow/red or bright colour for about 2 months now. I’m going to use it daily but I only do about 7000 miles a year. Been to look at several I just haven’t found the one yet. I’ve sent this car in question and I’m sure your Porsche but know the car I’m taking about. I saw it up and it’s perfect for what I want, it’s priced 5 fgtamd more than a black one of the same year and low miles. I can’t stand black on cars though it’s too hard to keep clean looks great when waxed though.

Riviera Blue is a stunning colour and I am sure you will have no trouble selling it in the future. But as others have said a £5k premium is too much.

If you love the colour and the car stacks up and you intend to keep it for a couple of years then I'd say offer the price less £2k and see where that gets you. I totally agree that black on a Boxster doesn't show the car off especially with a black roof.

Good luck with your decision and if you buy it get some photos posted up biggrin

It's been on the market for quite a while.

Stunning colour and low mileage and probably worth some premium, but I think most headline asking prices are likely to be negotiable at the moment.

I’ve been speaking to them and made a fairly serious offer but a couple of grand below I shall wait and see.

It’s got full leather inc doors but no PASM or Chorno. Is chrono really worth it?

The red and beige interiors are not great neither in the navy one IMO.

Only you can decide what is the right spec for you, including whether or not you like the colour and how much you are prepared to pay for the relative rarity - RR obviously isn't a fan, but others are, including me! My personal opinion is that I think it might be a little expensive, but you need to decide what you are comfortable paying and just do what you appear to be doing and get on with it. If you can get the car at a price you are happy with then great - enjoy it! If not, then just wait for another one to come along, but it probably won't be in riviera blue unless you're very lucky.

I just mean leather on the handles were you pull it shut not the whole door if you get me. I think it looks great and adds class to the interior.

The dash isn’t leather though which is something a lot of people like/want. Makes a big difference to the interior in my opinion. Sports Chrono and PASM are two big misses on spec I would say especially the latter....I am not that fussed about SC but apparently it’s something that a lot of people want.

Or possibly not the only 1 in the uk? https://www.qualitycarstoday.co.uk/vehicle-details... and Porsche Bristol had one for sale https://www.autovolo.co.uk/advertdetail/porsche/bo... ,stiil rare but on the assumption they are selling as possibly the only one in the UK its simply not.
I reckon there are double figures driving about
