Hi

I had to sell my elise s1 2 years ago but am now looking to get an other - ideally an S2.

I have upto 14/15k to spend and realise that a few in this bracket have been in a crash - is this a problem anbd how much would it normally effect the value compared to an A1 car?

I think the rule most people go by is 30-40%. i.e. don't buy a HPI listed car unless you can get it 30-40% cheaper than a mint one as this is what you're likely to lose come resale time.

The theory with crash damaged cars (all makes, not just lotus) is that, ensuring they have been fixed correctly and by a good garage, they can be as good....if not better...than a 'regular' car.

Your problem will come when it's selling on time, and it will probably take a VERY long time - and possibly be very disheartening for you too.

For £15k you're not far off something like this...

www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=41164&s=12

so no need to go down the crash damaged route!? There are bargains out there...!

I could be tempted to part with mine for the right money (you're in the ball-park)

Its a non-crashed gunmetal S2 with go-faster bits

Email me if you want details.

i'd leave a hpi car alone you'l loose ur saving at resale time an getting shot of it may prove problematic, the trade wont want to take it p/x or anything better with ur budget to jus get a nice unmolested one which u should easily achieve with ur budget

Ah yes, sorry, I should read properly

I'll keep an eye out for you. When you say round the corner, is that literally? I've seen a red S1 in Jacksons's carpark a couple of times - would that be you?

I know the general area but ladybank is about 200 miles long!
