Hi, considering purchasing a used Audi S5. The insurance cover is higher than what I believed to be the norm and when questioned the insurance company sited a high theft rate as the reason with S and RS models being a common occurrence. With children at home I’m slightly concerned. Is this the case? The car is a 2016 model so nothing too specialised.

Any help appreciated.

Do you live near Birmingham?
Will it be parked on your drive?
Are you prepared to dominate the stairs?

My mate bought an S5 in London, parked on street and it was nicked within 2 weeks!

I’ve had an RS6 and an S7 parked on my drive in the Home Counties for years, thankfully without issue so far although it does worry me a little.

If the thought even entered your head, I think you've answered your own question. You are right to be concerned about this crime ridden st box of a country though.

If I wanted a fast Audi which isn't a rolling 'steal me' advert, I would get an RS3 and give it a TDI makeover, inc badges. Just store the RS3 exhaust and bumpers etc somewhere until ready to sell it on.

I was very blarsa to this. Until, last year I bought an old 2007 V8 S5. In 7-months of ownership I had some lovely compliments. I also had two men confront me late one evening in the street, and another occasion where someone tried to remove the exhaust with a hacksaw on our drive. Maybe I was unlucky.

3 people I work with live in nice parts of greater Manchester, they all have Audi RS or S cars, everyone has been stolen, the S5 cab has been stolen 3 times and broken into 6 times.

The chap with an RS5 who lives near Liverpool has been fine.

The only cars that have been stolen from the villagfe I live in in Gloucestershire are an S5 and a Landy

Someone tried distracting me at the door hoping the keys were in the hall, they weren't so he gave up, his mate in the car gave a knowing smile as they drove off.

Never had a problem before, previously I lived in a no through road so car wasn't easily visible, now I am on a main road so is visible.

The 2 who tried it on were on a little crime spree across Wiltshire, Bath and Bristol according to the Policeman who came to take a statement.
