Who would like to have a their Tamora fitted with a proper folding soft top? I have always thought it would be a good option for a TVR, and i wondered if anyone knew of a roof maker who would be able to build a bespoke roof. Hands up all those interested, and how much would you be prepared to pay? If there's much interest, we can start looking around.

I am tentatively interested. I would worry about it ballooning because I often drive with the windows down.

I think I would certainly consider this but do you think it will count as a modification which would have to be reported to the insurers, so raising the premium? Also would it have an effect on the residual value as no longer being an "original" Tamora?

Well maybe if it stays in place. Does anyone else put the rubber strips on the roof out of place when the slide the lid in and out of the boot? I find that I then get gaps by the windows unless I carefully rethread the rubber which is a pain.
Definitely maybe then!

To my mind there are two main problems. Most soft tops are made with a plastic or hard rubber window surround which folds with the soft top - TVR hoods don't have this and so bespoke frames would need sourcing. Secondly, there's no existing mechanism to attach the front rail to the screen header rail - again, a problem that would need a bespoke solution. There are a couple of hood manufacturers who I can contact - one in Surrey, and one in Wales.

The other problems mentioned are common to all soft tops, so presumably manufacturers have solutions to those issues.

A folding top would be a lot better, in this country, with the Schizophrenic weather we have, we HAVE to keep the roof in the boot, negating any chance of decent luggage space. I will always maintain that the folding tops on my MGs were perfect, I could even lower or raise the top at traffic lights!
I echo what others have said regarding residuals, it may take quite a knock, especially for some of us who are thinking of trading in within the next year or so, what would be nice is a 'Tamora 2', with such a folding top, this would also decrease the overall weight of the car somewhat, plus keeping the boot free for luggage!

(Disclaimer:- Although I love folding hoods, I would not swap my Tam for any other marque because of that! )

My other idea, which wouldn't cause any problem with residuals, is to have a folding front section which can be clipped to the already foldable rear, and to the header rail. that way it's not changing the basic design. Probably a lot easier and cheaper to make as well! Any takers for that one?

Count me in - not fussed about heated rear screen. Would be surprised if it affected resale, I can only see this as an improvement, so long as you get a decent job done. Don't see why it should interest insurer either, it's not a performance mod, and shouldn't make car more attractive to thieves - you would just have to accept that if car got stolen, you would be replacing with a standard Tamora, and would have to pay to re-do roof again if you wanted.

Nubbin, makes me wonder why I've never seen a Griffith or Chimaera with roof like you mention.
Can't be viable otherwise somebody would have done it in the past 15 years.
Good idea though!

speaking as a chimaera owner I think a folding centre section would be fabulous.

Two shaped fixed bars running length ways down the roof rails allowing a seal around the windows of the car. With two or three folding bars running across the car operating in a similar fashion to those folding the rear of the hood would be ideal.

An alternative design would be exactly the opposite with the folding bars running lenth ways and the fixed bars running across the roof.
