Been making a noise for months. Last week started getting message "Transmission function limited". today it seemed to not change gear.

By using the manual setting worked out that only gears 1,3, and 5 are working.

Im guessing this is significant. :-(

Bad news I'm guessing?

Getting worse today :-(

Sometimes when it changes from 1st to 3rd it slips out of gear completely. Only way to resolve is to pull over stop/start engine.

Seems to me that you need to take it to a local garage and have them fix the problem - or fix it yourself, if you have the necessary skills and resources. Failing to change gear might not be a major problem, but making strange noises is more of a worry.

Is it a Powershift dual clutch? The fact gears 2,4 and 6 are missing could suggest a failed clutch pack.

Worst case scenario - complete overhaul or replacement.

Had one place today quote me £3500 - seems well steep!

There is a listing on the bayofE for £1050 fitted ,sounds like the garage you asked didn't
want to get involved with the job.
The U/S gearbox may well be beyond overhauling in which case a surcharge will probably be payable . If strange noises appear it pays to get the problem investigated ,unlike humans cars don't heal themselves !

Yes I've knocked the one place on the head. Sounded more like "dont want to do it but if you're dull enough to pay that much" sort of thing.

Got a place now whos telling me worse case will £1400 which is better.

Heres update - not sure I understand. Do they mean ECU?

"The engineers is under to opinion that the car has an control unit fault and that is causing the problem as other data is normal.

They are putting on a different test rig from the factory as we don’t have this equipment and can let you know by lunch time of the outcome."

Garage have decided they can't do it because they think its the control module now.

Have had no choice but to take to dealer now. (My mate is service manager so I wont get ripped off and at least get a discount).

Other than it'd be running around trying to find someone whos got the equipment to configure the module.

Although, dealer has said filter and fluid change is in order first off which may solve problem (£320 though!)

Find an independant Ford specialist would be my suggestion. I put up with a problem with my focus for years that neither the dealers nor random garages were ever able to solve, but my local ford specialists solved in about 2 minutes.

Trouble is its all hit and miss I find.

Initially took it to well respected gearbox and engine specialist. They told me they could definitely sort it. 4 days of fannying around and it because obvious they could not do it.

All the while, trying to find a garage to do it, costs me money in car hire charges.

Beginning to wish I'd scrapped it to be honest....

They've had it a month now.

Talked the talk when I booked it in - week maximum blah blah blah.
After two weeks, taking days to get hold of someone they told me the part was delayed.
Last week, they said the part was in. Today someone else told me the part wasnt there

Having read some REALLY bad reviews I'm a little concerned. I have no idea what they are playing at.

What are my legal rights? Its a gearbox replacement and I've got a feeling they've already taken the old one out.
