Bmw 325i repeated injectors and coil failures
Discussion
Hi all, wondering if anyone has had experiences or advice for repeat injector and coil failures
On the bmw 325 i, think it's E93 model???
We've had this car only Two years and the coils and injectors keep failing and misfiring when you put your foot down. Doesn't happen when >5000 rpm constant just when foot down.
It's come up with a carbonised cat converter failure also which is linked I perceive but again why is it carbonised and it hasn't actually failed yet so I think it won't be covered by warranty?
Thankfully it's covered by warranty and it's happened again but I'd like an insight of what could be causing them to fail repeatedly??
They just change the injectors and/ or coil and off we go but it then repeats after a while!!
Any insights or experience would be greatly appreciated as the missus ( her car). Has lost all confidence in this car and I'd like to sort it once and for all...
Thanks all

I've been running a thread recently trying to get to the bottom of a similar problem. You have the same engine as me (N53 straight six) It's well documented that these engines eat injectors and coil packs. Mine does the same, fine until you put your foot down and go above a certain amount of revs, then it misfires and the EML comes on.
BMW/Warranty companies seem to like replacing all of them in one go when the truth is you could probably just switch out the faulty injector or coil and continue onwards.
From what I've learnt recently, the latest versions of the injectors (series 11?) are OK and should last. The early versions failed a lot and BMW recalled them.
My local garage switched round the coils last week on mine and it's been OK so far which suggests it may not be the injector that is causing it to misfire.

??
This will be linked to the NOX sensor. Other people on here have used a NOX emulator when their sensors have failed as it resolves the cat failure error.??

Misfire under load sounds more like a coilpack not injector BMW/Warranty companies seem to like replacing all of them in one go when the truth is you could probably just switch out the faulty injector or coil and continue onwards.

Edit to add from other multiple threads by OP
The injectors post 2014 are supposed to be more reliable but presumably you've had all yours replaced during 2016 ish by a bmw dealer and now they've been diagnosed as failed again ? Thats a bit crap. So are bmw dealers though (bit crap) so I wonder how they determined injectors have failed again? If it's just misfiring it may be just coilpacks in which case suck it up because they are consumable and relatively cheap.

Indeed sounds the same but i wonder if there is an inherent electrical fault causing them to fail?!!
I'd like to get to the bottom of rather than just every 3-6 months have to pay out...
i guess the same as you....
also the missus is driving my mad

Yes, certainly a bit crap and i'm fed up with it TBH....
NOX sensor - cant seem to find that ?!?!
Where do you look for parts ???

If you're fed up with the car get shot of it?

I didn't mention NOX sensor. Personally I doubt your injectors have failed again if they are recent index 11. If they have that's crap, but I doubt they have.

Sorry - must of clicked on the wrong thread as it was in response to RanchoGrande re the NOX sensors......If you're fed up with the car get shot of it?
And yes, think may have to get it fixed and get rid...

WBAC as it is. That's what I'd do. If the misfire is only on cold start how will they know?
Misfire is when you put your foot down and now EML is on..they give nothing for it..
its worth +8K and they've quoted 5
shes a lovely looking motor, immaculate in fact, and only 38 K miles, just these issues...
Tell us what index your injectors are, when they were last replaced and who fitted them.
My index 11 have been fine for nearly 3 years. If they fail now it's £150 a pop. Not exactly going to break the bank. The coilpacks are 25 each. If you have latest injectors fitted by bmw they have a 2 yr warranty, hence asking.

I feel your pain OP - I hope you can get it sorted under warranty.
But I've read quite a few threads like this, so when I was looking for a petrol 6-pot E91 last year I only looked for ones with the N52 engine as I wasn't going to have a warranty!
But even then I got the dead electric water pump within 6 months and a battery a few months later - I'm starting to think I should have kept my E46!

Cant believe expensive modern cars can have so much problems.
I'm an engineer so appreciate all machines have mechanical and electrical failures but i certainly do not
trust these garages when they state everything has been checked over....
Ours had issues < 3 months and <6 months after only 500 miles needed new front and back brakes AND discs ! Plus whole lot of other stuff.. that's outside of injectors and coils...
So much for the apparent AA 127-billion point check that was done prior to purchase

IMHO i wouldn't but a used car without warranty again and certainly only from a main dealer as the risk is reduced..
i would hope !!
As others have said, and as I've learnt recently, you'll be able to get this fixed if you have some patience and a decent garage on hand to help.
What is happening to yours is exactly what mine was doing, and since my garage switched the coils around it hasn't happened again. Although it does sound more like the NOX on yours as you are getting the CAT error. There is good thread on here somewhere about the NOX emulator.
