I work for myself in IT, i've never done contracting work or working from home for someone else. Can anyone recommend a good job site or agency to use please?

My preferred site is jobserve. Saying that, you'll find the same jobs on multiple sites such as CWJobs etc, but always worth looking in a few places.

A 'good' agent really depends on a few things. When you get a contract and get some good feedback from the client, that agent will be more willing to work with you again so you can sort of avoid the getting noticed bit. You can of course get recommended by another contractor or somebody that knows the agent. This has just worked out well for me. I mentioned to a friend that one particular agency were advertising a job and that filled me with fear as I'd applied for stuff through them before and never heard anything back. It's a small world, she happened to know the lady mentioned on the job ad as she's worked with them a few times before. 350 applications were received for that role and the only reason I got noticed was because of my friend calling in a favour.

I made the shortlist and subsequently got the job as the interview went well and was deemed the right person for the job. If it wasn't for my friend, I'd never have been noticed!

Jobserve and Linkedin are my two main sources - more often that not, the roles I have done have been through recruiters messaging me on Linkedin.

Sorry bit confused when you say you work for yourself in IT ...... Whom would be your client then ? And how do you bill currnently if not a one man band/Ltd company etc.

No need to divulge whom you work for - just didn't understand your current setup.

As others have said - jobserve/Cwjobs - but also people whom you have eorked with before (dependent upon your skillset.location etc)

I've been contracting for the last 12 years now - and the world I work in has got a lot smaller, often word of mouth from social group you know before a pimp (sorry meant agency) will mean you are ahead of the game - and can then reach out to the agency whom are actually able to put you forward.

Ensure your dealing with somebody whom actually is on the PSL (Preferred Supplier List) as either a tier 1/tier 2 agency. There are some people out there whom will be economical with the truth when it comes to saying they can represent you/put your forward - as if not on the PSL - often means your CV gets discarded, and if then put forward by a PSL company - again discarded due to them wanting to avoid any hassle having CV presented twice.

Good agencies do exist - jsut don't necesarily take a shotgun approach to applications ......

Maybe others on here have same skillset as you - so maybe say skillset and what area you work in/business (Finance/manufacturing etc)

List of the most popular ones....

https://www.jobserve.com
https://www.jobsite.co.uk/
https://www.indeed.co.uk/
https://www.cwjobs.co.uk/
https://www.monster.co.uk/
https://www.technojobs.co.uk/
https://www.totaljobs.com/jobs/itil/
http://www.hays.co.uk/
https://www.allthetopbananas.com/
https://www.rullion.co.uk/

But i tend to gravitate towards jobserve and cwjobs

Having said that, my last two contracts have been because of agencies seeking me out via linkedin, so a good linkedin profile does work.
