If poison is past it's expiry date, is it more poisonous or is it no longer poisonous?

If you rip a hole in a net, there are actually fewer holes in it than before!

Which letter is silent in the word 'scent', is it S or C?

100 years ago everyone owned a horse and only the rich had cars, today everyone has cars and only the rich own horses!

Did somebody invent the petrol engine, then had to find something to run it on? Or did somebody invent petrol then needed to invent an engine to use it?

I read somewhere mainly the latter. There wasn't much demand for that particular distillation fraction so it made sense to make an engine to run on it.
