I'm sure that there is a perfectly good reason for this, but given the engine in the GT4 (and indeed Spyder) is said to be a strangled/detuned 991 carrera s, why can't it be remapped to give the same output as the 991? Both 981/991 have been around for awhile now, so presumably someone has cracked the ECU? Is it just down to warranties? Anyone on here done it?

Rear engine vs mid engine means the intakes and exhaust headers are different, and purposely restricted so the Cayman sits within the hierarchy where Porsche want it - underneath the 911. A remap alone won't get around that.

A stage 1 remap will get you back to 911 output, 400ps... this is common knowledge... Cobb AccessPort.
You can add a BMC filter if you want but there is various opinion about how much difference the filter will net.

Gotcha, I forgot the 911 was only 15PS more. Hardly worth the cost and bother/hassle of a remap, as adding one will potentially have a huge effect on its value if Porsche never let it back within the OPC network for resale.

Which is why we haven’t seen many people doing it so far.
Once warranties expire… people will be more willing to mod, if they don’t see extended OPC warranty as worthwhile. Big issue on this car has been fixed now… namely 3rd Gear.
It’s an easy car to tune, with stage 2 giving 425HP easily. And it will be super fast with that power and it’s low weight.

@ Oulton Park on Friday, Farook has his car out … 425hp upgrade, LWFW, shortened ratios.
I didn’t get to go out with him, but ChrisW did and confirmed this is a tangible step.

Cobb really is the one if you are just after a remap alone.
