Mystery abandoned car wreck.

This is gonna be some detective work..or not I found this today on my usual route, it's obviously been there a while, anyone know what it was? The part of the rear fender belongs to the car, and the light bezel says "England" on it and there are clues that it were a 4-door car.

I was thinking Austin Maxi/Landcrab of some sort but they didn't have small fins on the rear fenders, or did they?

I think the same, front side mount rad panel is a clue.
My first ever drive was in an auto one of these on an airfield aged 5, photo not very clear but genuine

Yup, pre 67 Mark 1 with the pointy tail lights (like the MG on the left). Mk 2 had the smoother lights shared with the later FX4 black cab.

My first thought was the Morris/Austin 1100. Looks a lot like it. The pics above don't have the add-on reflector though, which I'm certain I've seen somewhere before. Maybe only certain years of 1100 had them?

That reflector is an accessory add on. Never a standard fitting on 11/1300.

South African cars had extra reflectors front and rear. It's doubtful that this ever was one but possible; more likely a slightly paranoid UK owner.

I grew up with these cars everywhere but I'd never before realised how much the back end looked like the MGB GT.

Same here. I had a 1300GT years back and a friend had a Riley 1300 but until that photo didn't appreciate the styling similarity.

The car is in a forest in a rural coastal area in Sweden btw, I think reflectors were mandatory if not fitted to the lights themselves, hence it being bolted to the fender.

There would have been reflectors in the original lens clusters.

The Austin Drawing Office number for all the badge-engineered variants was 16. They are commonly referred to as ADO16s.

Morris, Austin, MG, Vanden Plas, Wolseley and Riley versions were built in the UK, plus some interesting overseas built versions like the Austin Apache.
