Hi guys,

I have a Vauxhall Astra J (55 plate diesel)

Over the last week or so I have noticed some sort of leakage in my parking space where my car is left overnight (see attached image)

Could this just be a case of dirt in the engine/exhaust where the car has not been on a long run in a while?

If so could anyone recommend some engine cleaner I could purchase to try and remedy this issue?

Thanks guys!

Why not just take it out for a decent run & rev it when it's warm?

On a separate note, get a 25kg bag of kiln-dried sand & a soft broom, spread the sand around so it fills the gaps between the blocks. It'll save problems in the future.

Following the separate note, you don't want to use kiln dried sand, you need fine grit for those blocks.

<geek mode on>

Paving blocks with the shaped edges like this are designed to allow water to soak into the ground, and the shaped edges maintain a working space (they form an open 'T' shape) between the blocks to allow water to pass through. The space should be filled with something which is free draining - a fine grit (0.5-2mm) is ideal as it supports the blocks whilst allowing water to flow freely. Very coarse sand would also work, but anything too fine could block and they lead to ponding etc.

A 55 plate will be an Astra H, if it can help anything. The J turned up about five years after that

Many thanks for the paving tips. When you mentioned the sand I presumed you were about to describe how to clean the exhaust stains as sand is an excellent abrasive cleaner in such situations. Imagine my surprise when you continued with a description of how best to fill the cavities between the blocks.
