Project car ideas
Discussion
Sorry if I’ve posted in the wrong place
I’m looking at starting a project car but with so many options I don’t know where to start
My budget no more than £1000
-Something RWD would be better
-not stupid slow and has to be fun to drive
-lots of modifaction options and parts easy to get hold of
Whatever is mentioned please could you say which year, engine and spec to go for and what bad bits to be aware of
Thankyou

£1000 won’t get you to far my mate if I were you save up at least 3k to begin with so you can buy some goodies or the whole thing will go sour pretty quick.
I throw my own wrenches an I’ve spent nearly 7k upto now that’s 3 weeks on project. If your married get a unit or the wife will kill you

A project to do what exactly?I’m looking at starting a project car but with so many options I don’t know where to start

What sort of modifications?
Sub £1k cars are far more rare these days. And there is a finite limit on how many rwd car types are available in this budget.

I'd go for this https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
Years back I was in a similar position and bought a Mk1 MX5. Easy to work on and fun on a twisty track if well set up.

OP if you have money tied up into 'getting' a mortgage that would suggest to me you are in the process of gaining such.
They way Brexit is going Id sit tight with my £1k and subsequent project costs for now as it may come in handy.

Fair shout I had that in mind but me and my misses put away 2k+ a month after bills so I wanted to at least get a car before I get a house

Looks alright, engine wise how well built are they, what sort of mileage do these start to go wrong?Years back I was in a similar position and bought a Mk1 MX5. Easy to work on and fun on a twisty track if well set up.

Something to do, I’ve got a 19 plate car which I can’t mess about with and I work in a engineering company but in the garage that they built to service and repair their 100+ fleet so I’m learning more and more and would like to try something for myself
lol, but what are you wanting to do with a project car?Just buy bits and bolt them on? Custom make parts?
Make it more powerful and/or faster?
Engine swap?
Body kits?
Handling upgrades?
Are you interested in 'show' or 'go' modifications?
As all of this is likely to play a big part in what sort of car you may consider buying.
