Looking for an AMG Line diesel as will be used for as a commuting car (150miles a day) so don’t judge me.

More so wondering what are the desirable optional extras on this model. Looking at around a 2015 model with 20-40k miles on it so around the £17-19k mark I think.

Matt wood (brown or black) on the dash brings an analogue clock and loses the shiny black plastic. It makes a huge difference to the quality of the interior.

Many cars advertised with "leather" actually have artifical leather called Artico.

COMAND satnav is much better than the basic offering (but still not great). It's part of the Premium and Premium Plus trim levels.

If you do a lot of motorway driving you might like the active cruise control called "Distronic".

Can't think of much else. They are well equipped cars so many of the options will come down to personal preference.

CarPlay & Android Auto were my must-haves, in order to run Waze & TomTom instead of the not very good and Mercedes system. Unfortunately these were only available with Audio 20 (not COMAND) when I ordered mine.

I don't think they were available on the 2015 cars. Didn't they come in with the facelift?

Does your display Waze on the big screen?

Mine is a 2017, so pre-facelift. Yes - with CarPlay I get Waze on the big screen when plugged-in to my iPhone.

Be careful with the Burmester sound system that comes with either Premium or Premium Plus
Without wishing to offend any Burmester owners, as I understand it:
  • Burmester: Some very cheap plastic speakers, including 4x tweeters, and a DSP to make them sound half decent
  • Audio 20: Same speakers but no tweeters and no DSP
The latter sounds really very poor indeed. The first thing I did to my car when I got it was put some good quality plug-and-play replacement speakers in.

If you can stretch the budget a bit you can now get the latest S/W213 E-Class for c.£23k.

I had a 24 hour test drive in an E220 AMG Line Premium Plus. Before the test drive I was convinced I wanted the 20' wheels and the panoramic roof. After 24 hours and 200 miles I wasn't bothered about the roof but I was keen to improve the ride offered by the 20' wheels. I did think the Burmester stereo sounded great.

I eventually went for an E220 AMG Line and I'm 23,000 miles into this one. The ride on the standard 19' wheels is better than the 20' wheels - far less obtrusive on the hands from the wheel and more 'planted' when going down B-roads. I've not missed an panoramic roof. I do sometimes wish I had the Burmester stereo.

The E-Class is probably a more comfortable drive for munching the miles. Mine has the basic stereo and it sounds pretty good for standard kit. I'm used to Bose in cars and have a £5k separate system at home and I know my ears are clear!

Clever stuff. I am sure this will be the way most cars will go, but the manufacturers will lose out on charging big money for rubbish built in sat navs.

Any thoughts on airmatic suspension?

I have it on mine, but I haven't driven a steel sprung W205 so I can't really compare the two.

It seems to work well. You can manually raise it (only 25mm or so) for bumpy roads, snow etc. and sport mode lowers it by a similar amount. Around town in the default comfort setting it rides well and deals with potholes and speed humps without worrying. I wouldn't say it was revolutionary in the way an old Citreon probably was, but passengers often comment it is very comfortable.
