If you buy your used BMW from a BMW dealer you get a list of benefits that last for one year, including Unlimited millage waranty, MoT cover, etc
But what happens about the connected service stuff of which some have a one year account and some 3 years?

My experience was 1 year free then they offer to continue the service for an additional charge. I never used my connected drive features so didn't take them up on it; can't remember what the price was but I really didn't see the point in having it.

The connected services are not part of AUC and unrelated to it.

Yep - you'll just get the balance of whatever is remaining.

Mine had ~ 9 months of traffic, map updates, concierge service and online services remaining when I bought my AUC. I personally found the online search quite good, as I could say "destination input - online search" and then say the place I want to go to and it got it right every time. Not going to be paying for that privilege now though...

Sort of makes the concierge service utterly redundant - and the one time I called them up I got cut off.

Just a word on map updates - don't rely on OTA updates as this only does minor updates to your regional maps. The full blown map updates are only possible via USB which I found out pretty much on the day my USB map update service expired...

Thanks for the replies.

Have I also read this right, that Apple car play only lasts for 3 years!
