E92 - Crankshaft Vibation Damper has failed

My 2012 M3 has not reached 30k yet the above item has failed. It also took out the front engine oil seal. I know this was a problem with the E46 M3 but haven't read anything about related issues with the E9x engine? I'm quite peeved - the last time I had this sort of problem was with a 20 year old 968!
