Just pondering - with ULEZ kicking in next month, are there going to be a bunch of bargain <2006 bikes kicking around for sale?

Obviously just a SE thing - at present, anyway!

I was worried I'd have to sell my perfectly good 2003 Hornet cos TFL deemed it old and toxic... fortunately there was a very useful thread in BB https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

As long as NOX emissions are below 0.15 then you can apply for an exemption. If your v5 doesn't have emissions data you need to get the certificate of conformity

I'm not sure how well known this is. TFL don't seem to publicise it and will only apply an exemption on a case by case basis. I think lots of people will be selling up completely unnecessarily unfortunately! Maybe their loss and others gain? Selling a bike with an exception might help.

Although other owners will have to follow the exercise anyway - for reference a 2003 Hornet emits 0.0940g/km nox

Well back in 1997 I was living in Sutton (a London Borough, albeit on the outskirts) and working in Redhill in a job I hated.

An agency I was registered with got me an interview with a firm based in Victoria, SW1. I was offered the job with an immediate 25% salary increase, so I took it. laugh

Commuted by train for a while, but it took over an hour to go just over 12 miles! So I bought a scruffy XJ550 for a few hundred quid and could do the same commute in 45 minutes - and cheaper.

But not for too long, as they relocated to Windsor in 2000 and I got offered a company-funded move so I went to Egham!

It turned out to be well worth it for me because by 2000 I was earning almost double what I was getting paid in the job I hated. rofl

But then you spent the salary increases on a large fleet of BMW Z4's.

Because not all of us live close to London, but do have to work there!

You don't have to, you choose to.

Please stop the boring London bashing. OP, follow the trend and move to Birmingham. The local MAG chapter have successfully lobbied the city council and motorcycles are going to be exempt from the soon to be implemented Clean Air Zone. Result!

No, I left that job in 2010 and got my 1st Z4 in 2014 - but defined benefit pension schemes are handy if you have one (or more)!

While I like your choices, I just prefer a metal roof. blah

No real problem with ULEZ and bikes made after 2002. Just get the CoC document and email to TFL, as above.

I doubt there are any standard bikes from then onwards, that exceed that level of NOx.

My SP2, 2006 Duke and '74 H2 are all exempt.

I'd be surprised if there were any non-FI bikes that are under the NOx limit.

Are there many mainstream bikes with carb after 2002? Lots of stuff moved to FI for the 2003 model year.

For those of you who have sent your CoCs to TFL, have they updated their database yet to reflect your bike's compliance? Mine is still showing as not compliant almost a month after I sent TFL the CoC.

No, it's not showing for mine either.

You're right it doesn't just affect London, but that picture is a bit misleading in this context. You'd think there was some sort of ULEZ in York but in reality there isn't anything affecting private vehicles. Even the latest proposals won't stop you buying and running high polluters because it's all about anti-idling in hotspots.

Fareham? The only emissions there are from flatulent pensioners.
