Decent pub recommendation near Tower of London
Discussion
The anchor tap has to be worth a visit. Don’t get excited about the food but it’s a proper old London pub dating back hundreds of years amongst the very modern surroundings. It’s not very big and gets busy after work.
One of the last pubs owned by a British brewery- Samuel something I think.
Love the place!

Anywhere but the dickens tbh.
Your main problem is get away from the tourist areas into the city and most places are shut during the weekend. But walk for 10 minutes and you're on fleet street so have the Old Cheshire Cheese. Nearly all the pubs in london sell decent ale so its really down to what charscter you want and id you want to eat. Just avoid the chains (slug and lettuce etc)

Shipwrights Arms, Tooley Street
A proper pub
I'm another one who loves that pub, I also used to work over the road from it and spent many an evening in there (proximity to the train station also helps).A proper pub
I would also recommend the Draft House which is right next to tower bridge, on the south side. Good ale and a pretty no frills environment.
I like The Ship on Hart Street which is 5 minutes walk from The Tower. The Crutched Friar (on Crutched Friars) is just along from here.
The Ship in Talbot Court is a further 5 minutes west from there and 2 minutes further north is Leadenhall Market (between Lime Street, Gracechurch Street and Leadenhall Street) which has The Grapes, The Lamb, The Swan (confusingly on Ship Tavern Passage!) and The New Moon. All traditional old boozers.
If you fancy someting a bit more modern and 'crafty' there are two branches of Draft House - one north of the Thames (Seething Lane) and one south, but both close to either end of Tower Bridge.

Hi
I’m staying down in that London place most of next week near the Tower/ St Katharine’s Dock.
Any good pub recommendations? Dickens Inn is famous obviously.
Many thanks in advance.

The Shipwreck's a dive (or was when I worked nearby, 5/6 years ago).
