Cars booked in for some pre-le-mans fettling at Austec soon, rear bushes are shot to shit so i rang austec and asked em what shocks they do, now they only do Avo's, so what are your experiences with Avo's, i'm hoping its just the bushes but need to be prepared, so should i stick - Nitrons, Gaz or Avo's on ??

Have a chat with Joolz at Joospeed about his Protech shocks, alloy body, spherical jointed, 13 position adjustment, adjustable platform. Less £s than Nitrons but very nicely engineered product and seem to work very well (early days for me). Fitted a set 2 weeks ago, can post detailed pics and account if you like.

Thanks Jools but away from the mutual admiration society, if you are considering budget shocks I reckon the Gaz range are unbeatable but if you are considering Nitron, talk to Jools because the development work he has carried out on the Protech product brings this up to a very high standard and dare I say it, close to Nitron performance.

These are the ones ive just bought.They look very good quality,and are backed up by a three year gaurantee!(very important to me).Mine are being fitted tomorrow,so i cant tell you how they perform just yet,but by all accounts,i wont be disappointed!I dont track the car a lot,so didnt want the extra expense that the nitrons only really justify for this reason but i wanted something better quality than the Gaz or avo's though.So thats how i ended up choosing the protech ones from jools, these are designed specifically for the car to,and can be further fine tuned to your own specific requirements,if needed,when you order them.Jools is great for customer service,and all the set up advice and future info that you might need too

Pena, would love to see the photos of your car now its lower. I have a standard 99 plate Chimaera and it looks like its up on stilts at present!!!! Will be upgrading mine some time very soon so am interested in how low I can go without compromising handling and grounding out all the time.
Also, is it just me or has anyone else noticed that cars after about 99 seem to sit a good bit higher? There are three other chaps who have Chimaeras where I work and when they are all parked together, mine lookes a good inch higher????????
Did they change the suspension?

They probably had ride height adjustable shocks, you can get them to ride lower than a snakes belly if you dare. Mind you even I was a bit nervous at Pena asking for a 140mm ride height.
There are aspects of suspension you need to be aware of if you're going towards the limits of the manufacturers design such as roll centre migration and roll axis rake, prematurely introducing the spring assister to the spring rate unless you shorten the body tube, as well as basic things like physical ground clearance for todays roads and luggage carrying ability.
any good suspension agent should be able to advise on the best route for you.
Lower and stiffer is almost always worse for road based driving on a car like a chimaera/griff ..

Absolutely Jools, we are talking daily driver here and not getting in to your type of set up for fast road/track and the spring rate is accordingly at the lower end, the ride height is set for asthetics and is wrong. Michael will be back when he realises that I'm right.

I have been driving it everywhere all day yesterday & today to work (Soho) & back (Surrey).
I love it, it's not skittish or rock hard).
I even parked in one of the NCP carparks (they have some mad slopes) and it was all fine.
The only problem for me is getting in and out of the car next to the curb. haha, but I'll get use to it as am not that tall or heavy.
