I got a parking ticket in Tunbridge Wells a couple of weeks ago, as I usually do when I visit the town. I have always managed to get them overturned because they have always been issued inappropriately.

But it is always hard work and the process is like the John Cleese argument sketch, with their arguments generally ludicrous and, dare I say it, dishonest.

It occurs to me, do towns like that manage their own parking enforcement or is it someone like Capita doing it centrally?

How is it you manage to get a parking ticket every time you go there then?

Some are, some aren’t.

Gloucester(shire?) outsource to APCOA. Was fairly trivial getting two incorrectly issued PCNs cancelled.

Whereabouts in Tunbridge Wells?

There are uniformed council parking wardens walking around the central bits, so pretty sure it isn’t outsourced.

Also APCOA in Derbyshire, here's the original report: https://www.parksmarter.org.uk/Images/2009-10%20FI...

NSL do a lot of the back office processing of local authority fines and charges.

You've clearly never read a post of theirs before then.

You might be confusing me with someone else. I don’t get many parking tickets and cannot recall the last time I paid one.

they also do a lot of the on-street and car park enforcement on behalf of many local authorities.

As a matter of interest how did you pay? Someone on Twitter was complaining recently about T Wells as they had had 2 tickets where they had paid using Ringo but paid for the wrong car park.

Are you talking about the issuing of tickets? Or subsequent collection/ enforcement?

I'm not aware of many councils that have outsourced the actual parking warden/ceo function.

Selecting the wrong car on ringo...there's a lot of mistake you should only really need to make once..

The most recent incident: I had paid by Ringo to park in a car park (the right one), but it was a long way from where I needed to drop off some stuff. So I left the car park briefly, dropped off the stuff and returned. Whilst dropping off I got a ticket.

It really should have been easy for the local authority to look at the situation and waive the ticket. But they made hard work of it and only cancelled it when a manager looked at it and concluded that his subordinate had been making things up.

Most councils have outsourced their parking work to the likes of APCOA, NSL or Indigo. Main parking apps are RingGo, PayByPhone or Dash Parking. The apps are quite straightforward. Most have removed ticket machines now. wink
